Why Bangladesh PM Hasina’s exit is fuelling attacks on Hindus and religious minorities

Multiple attacks have been reported against Bangladesh’s minority Hindus since former Prime Minister Sheik Hasina resigned and fled the country on Aug 5. A primary school teacher was killed in the chaos and at least 45 others injured. Interim leader Muhammad Yunus has urged protestors to protect all and condemned the attacks as heinous. Dr Lutfun Nahar Lata, lecturer in sociology and social policy at the University of Melbourne, gives CNA’s Asia First some insight into the situation.

Attack on Hindus in Bangladesh is not new thing , in 1971 when Bangladesh got freedom from Pakistan at that time Hindus % in Bangladesh is 20% above but now Hindu % is only 8% so the data clear indicating that the conditions of Hindus and other minority is very harsh in Bangladesh, extremist group targeting Hindus continuously since Bangladesh independence .

Attack on Hindu Minority is always happening but now it out in open. My grandfather and grandmother has migrated from East Pakistan back in 70s. In 1971 the Hindu population Bangladesh 18% today it is just 8% only.
Trying to protect Hindu temple from whom?? Lion or USA??

Over 20% of the Hindu population in Bangladesh has declined rapidly in 70 years, the main reasons being the horrific abuses against Hindus such as massacres, rapes, Forcible occupation of Hindu land, looting, forced conversions and many Hindus who were helpless and forced to flee their ancestral lands. Before independence, the Hindu population of Bangladesh was 28 percent and now it has come down to less than 8 percent.
And the new addition is persecution of Hindus on charges of blasphemy. My request to CNA is to raise the issue of persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh in the international arena
