Great tips! I’m vetting bootcamps at the moment. I saw a few that run about 3 months straights 40h a week. It felt like that was way too crammed and you wouldn’t be able to absorb all the info. I feel like a program that runs 6-9 months 15-20h a week is the way to go. That way you can apply what you learned, reach out if you have questions and make sure you understand the material

These are some of the best tips I've heard on YouTube about learning to code. Thank you!

Great video, I’m starting the transition out of healthcare and this was good information to look at before getting into a boot camp.

After years in sales and customer success roles, I've just started my career transition and this video offered some great tips!

I'm currently in one. I was not understanding what is the best strategy to use, I was absorbed in passing so I would spend a lot of time on an assignment and get behind on keeping up with the teacher as he moves on to other topics. But now I understand how to strike a balance between the two. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the video, this definitely addressed a lot of my concerns. I’m currently enrolling in a boot camp but have been taking courses on Codecademy and am getting certified through them. I enjoy coding but I have a 1 year old so committing to a bachelor’s degree in CS isn’t really realistic.

Is it a better bet to go to a boot camp at a reputable university? I'm thinking about a 6-month one at Michigan State.

Hey man, thanks for the video. Very helpful. I was wondering if you know of any resources, like apps or websites, to give interested beginners like myself an idea of and familiarize themselves with practical coding application? Building a web page/site, etc. Maybe similar to what Packet Tracer is for Networking? Or, better example, MySpace profile page editor? Lol

I'm always afraid they will throw me a gigabyte of information an hour and expect me to remember it. I always feel like these boot camps really just want to run someone through that already knows how to do it so they can collect a huge paycheck.

What would you say to someone who earned a fine arts degree but 6 years later hasn't used it, and is considering coding/software development bootcamp? I studied illustration and did well in school but it wound up being the wrong subject for me and I've struggled in janitor and customer service roles ever since.

Peter i liked how you said to try coding before starting a bootcamp for it, my question is how can i start a coding on my own? Do i need to download any applications?

I just did the UW Full Stack Flex Coding bootcamp. It's partnered with ED X. Anyway, I'm here because everything Peter said is correct. I watched his entire video and he hit on all the points. Yes, the bootcamp T.A.'s and instructors will encourage you to learn. Do not lean on them unless you've tried to learn it on your own, like actually tried out the code and wrestled with it on your own. Show them the evidence you tried when you ask your questions and tell them what you think went wrong. It's the only way to commit the lessons to long-term memory. And the lessons in bootcamp usually build off one another. You can't use ChatGPT as a strong crutch either. It can help you understand some concepts, but it's a very weak substitute for actual learning as coding it yourself will lead you down a proper learning path. Copy-paste will only get you so far. I consider myself a beginner, but I now have a direction. Thanks, Peter.

Advanced beginner is the right way to put it, I just started this week. I am noticing the spiral of shame amongst the class. Thanks for insight and inspiration.

5:16 Is what I needed to hear. I have no interest in coding but I'm 29 and trying to get out of service industry. I was interested because of a guaranteed higher paying job.

I actually applied to be admitted on our county's local bootcamp but few days later i was not accepted . But hey at this moments of me being a bit curious. As some alumni told me that its not that worth it and they regret doing it they actually recomend free courses more than a bootcamp so i dont know but i felt lucky when i was not accepted . So for a while i can think about it if maybe i tey to apply on the next bootcamp on my list or not? Idk but btw this video of yours does help ty

I don't know if you will see this comment bt it would have been really great if you could help coz I'm so confused abt taking this bootcamp course. I'm a mathematics graduate who have no experience or whatsoever in IT feild bt got into this tech company via recruitment. And for last 1 yr I'm working as a manual tester in one of their projects. I have always been feeling stuck in this and I wanted to upskill myself. So I tried out coding and tried learning html, css and nearly js..bt eventually it became really hard coz I didn't had a proper mentor or couldn't get into any communities or find any peers interested in this. So I had to pause all the studies bcoz of the struggles. I want to start again and I was thinking a bootcamp might help with a proper curriculm and realistic projects to work with. Please provide your valuable opinion if possible.

hello Peter great video and resources, I am considering taking a bootcamp for full stack developer at 4 geeks academy, i dont see them on the resources you provide. Have you heard of them. I am total new to this industry and dont know if 4 months is realistic time frame to learn this technology well enough to start a new career without having any experience at all what so ever? thanks for any advice you can share, I have been unemployed for almost a year and want to dive into this stuff.

The only reason i seek a code bootcamp is because i need guidance and a structure then from that foundation i can go and learn on my own more confidently instead of just wading through the jungle.
