OG Alrfed was already badass.
He was ex-special forces, extremely skilled in multiple forms of fighting, was still able to fight really well at 70, was one of the only people that could tell Bruce to do something and he'd actually do it, he doesnt have rhe no-kill rule and will literally just shoot people if they break into the batcave, and is overall just the epitome of badass.
He also beat the shit out of Superman in 3 or 4 hits, broke his nose and nearly killed him with the first headbutt
