I hate when people make negative comments to his videos this guy put his heart and soul into his videos to show people how to do things so the DIY folks and whom ever want good honest information. It is really sad, I think your videos are all great.

It's been 24 years since I shingled a roof. (Learned from my dad.) I needed this refresher. Thank you 😊

Your starter strips should have the tabs cut off and then they should be installed with the tar strip at the bottom edge of the roof. You do this so there is a tar strip to "glue" down the bottom of the first row of shingles.

You're a great teacher. My husband and I started a roofing company together, he's been in the business for 5 years and I know next to nothing about the whole process, so this was really helpful! Thank you :)

This video series is great. I took a side job doing shingle work for a friends parents and I’ve only had framing experience, this video has given me great confidence. Thank you!

hello the starter course is also to hold the first shingle down in times of heavy winds and hurricane the strip of tar supposed to be to the very end/edge by the drip edge so that it can be effective in holding the ends of the first course down.

thank you for all of your videos I always watch
I love them!

I have learned so much from you sir. From remodeling bathrooms, funding the retaining wall, building the shed, roof, and now this. I cant thank you enough for your help.
Thank you very much.

Only thing I would change is the starter strip. Cut off the 3 shingles and flip the shingle right side up, so you have the glue strip at the edge of the roof, so the first row of shingles has something to seal to as well.

We always cut the tabs off and put the tar strip on the bottom for our starters, also, we have to use webbing and roof cement "bull" on top of the drip edge.

As a home owner, I cannot afford a roof replacement. So this helps me make small repairs as I go. For this coming year, I will replace the whole roof top since the cedar shingles are rotten. Thank you for making this video series for the non roofing common folk. Thank you.

I've done some roofing and now my roof needs replacing. I got and estimate of $10, 000 and that gave me a lot of courage and motivation to tear off and replace my roof with laminate shingles. I'm 68 and in good shape and believe I can do it. I'm still planning how I will go about taking it one section at a time. I will also use some kind of fall protection. I like you vid. Very helpful.

I initially had the same thought others had about cutting the tabs off the three-tab shingles for the starter strip; then I remembered that architectural shingles have the tar strip on the bottom lower edge, so they should seal down just fine.

i like to cut the shingle in half, leaving the tar strip on, and use that for my starter strip..that way the tar is on the bottom by the drip edge holding down the shingle by the edge of the roof

I think this guy is really good at making the DIY feel as comfortable in attempting this sort of job. Great video

If you think about why he made the video it would be clear. Hes showing those that are not experienced how to roof. Hes not showing journeyman / foreman how to be faster. If he would of made the video that way i would be lost. So many neg comments. Its easy to pick apart peoples videos from the comfort of your home. I dont think most of the people talking crap would dare post a video of themselves, too scared of what people might point out. I enjoyed the video, great work bro, Thanks.
