Kanye has a history of liking mics with no correct booths. Like setting up the mic in the middle of a hotel room with no damping. It’s just an effect he clearly likes that it doesn’t sound “perfect”

Kanye once screamed during an interview “I AM WARHOL.” As usual, his ineloquent delivery distracts from his message, which is actually true. I think Kanye to Warhol is a great comparison on many levels. There is a complexity to Kanye’s thoughts and the way he communicates that is missed by most people who just hear his name and assume the worst. When he says “I know the government administered AIDS, ” or “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people, ” he’s trying to communicate something that is true, but his metaphor is often mistaken for a false statement. In the same way, he is not literally Andy Warhol, but he does hold a similar place in our culture as Warhol did. You might think the art they both created is crap, but you might also be missing the point

Kanye West is the best artist of all time, even above classic rock

Kanye West is honestly the best artist of all time, above even Pink Floyd and Beatles and Queen

Y’all cannot even try to argue this isnt an unpopular opinion because everyone who I’ve said this to has disagreed.

He has a lot of creative ideas and he bodies any genre he does. He has not released one bad album and his songs are all perfect and know exactly what they need to be. He could produce any song and it would work. The Beatles, pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones? Not so much.

He also writes pretty much all his songs, y’all’s favs needed a whole band to do that.

so Kanye is the most creative artist In rap? No. In all genres? Even no-er.

He had a good run in his first five albums. Definitely not the best lyrically, but pretty good. Great production. Some people seem to think that "artist" just means entertainment and beats. Don't forget about a little something called art. Is it saying something? Is it changing your perspective? Is it poetic? Is it poignantly capturing an idea? Is it fit to be classically studied? Is it timeless? A lot of people miss the fact that the big part of artistry in rap is in the lyrical content, not the beats. Rapping about getting married to a porn star, or "300 b*tches, where the Trojans?" isn't art, whether you enjoy it or not. But he has other songs that have some artistic merit -- the message of "No one man should have all that power" comes to mind. The poignant hopelessness in the whole first verse of All Falls Down.

I think it's too unreasonable to go back further than a century and compare musicians like Mozart and Beethoven to modern commercial artists, as they are so radically different.
Best musical artist of the last century, all genres, in my subjective opinion, is probably The Beatles or Radiohead. See songs like A Day In The Life and Fake Plastic Trees. Best rap artist, IMO, is Tupac Shakur. See Changes (some of the heaviest social messages in all of music), Keep Ya Head Up, Dear Mama, Me And My Girlfriend (one of the great extended metaphors in rap), etc.

Penitentiary chances, the devil dances And eventually answers to the call of Autumn All of them fallin' for the love of ballin' Got caught with 30 rocks, the cop look like Alec Baldwin Inter-century anthems based off inner-city tantrums Based off the way we was branded Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon And at the airport they check all through my bag And tell me that it's random
