Here is how UK police catch uninsured drivers using automatic numberplate recognition cameras which are situated on all motorways and major roads in Britain, and many minor ones too. Their main purpose is identify motorists who are committing offences such as driving without insurance, speeding or driving dangerously.

When a motorist is stopped a full driver background check is usually made and a car can be searched if the police believe they have reason to do so and a lot of suspected criminals are caught in this way as well as motorists.

Absolutely disgusting that the police have this much power to ruin someone's life over not having insurance. There are certain circumstances where it might be completely accidental that a person doesn't have insurance, an oversight, maybe they have a loved one who just died and haven't noticed their renewal letter, maybe they just split up with their partner and are in a total world of pain and grief and perhaps now live somewhere that doesn't have an address and they are not even thinking about things like insurance, maybe their child has just died.. there are literally hundreds of reasons why everyday good people have made an error due to already having bad circumstances and then along come the police and cause absolute devastation to an otherwise good person. Police have the most disgusting way about them, very patronising, absolutely zero compassion or empathy and lack an ability to listen. The whole system of how they police needs to be rewritten, not everyone who is stopped is a criminal and it would not be hard for circumstances to be taken into account. They push people into corners where they become absolutely desperate and totally totally gutted with a punishment that far far outweigh the crime!

MID is not operated by or under the jurisdiction of the police. It is operated by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (a private corporation). There are cases of unlawful seizures by the police, the MIB not keeping the MID up to date, corrupt police officers lying to the MID to justify seizing someone's vehicle and MID/MIB employees giving the police false information or inputting the wrong information into their so-called database. In one case, a PCSO unlawfully seized a vehicle. The police force involved was warned the seizure was unlawful, but did nothing. The recovery operator decided not to listen either and told the owner to "fuck off" before illegally crushing the vehicle. On the matter going to court and the prosecution being told what had happened, the case was hastily dropped. It did not end well for the PCSO or the police officer who should have been supervising them. The driver was paid the full cost of replacing the vehicle the recovery operator had destroyed.

The Motor Insurance industry claims there are huge numbers of uninsured vehicles on the road, but when challenged about this on live national television, their mouthpiece became agitated and aggressive, leading to many concluding the actual number of uninsured vehicles is considerably less than the industry is claiming.

So the simple way around this is that you simply use your provisional license to validate the insurance policy for your vehicle and then get to driving without a full license and remain undetected on the roads!! 😂
