What about you? Do you agree with any of these? I'd love to hear how you set up your home in the comments below!

Interesting to see the number of people reaching for "hacking" as a reason for a ban on cameras & not that a lot of kids experience abuse in foster homes from the foster parents themselves & that its important to protect them from the foster parents too

Stress can cause an increase in the chance of developing autoimmune disorders. Foster kids often come from stressful situations. So maybe that’s why your foster kids are more likely to develop sensitivities to some detergents.

apparently the toy guns weren't so obvious to my aunt. she looked after me and my siblings during summer break so that mama could work (I am on the autism spectrum btw), when I was 10 we went to go stay with aunt and she suprised us with new nerf guns, I guess she just forgot my ma's warning, and she thought we could have a nerf fight. the minute I saw those guns I started screaming worse than a banshee, someone literally called the police (I'm looking at you Janice) but yeah it took a good two hours for my mum to calm me down

So often we see warnings like “caution this McCafé is hot” and kinda think it’s strange or dumb. Women and children are evacuated first in emergencies only after laws took place because so many women and children were dying in emergencies.

When you see a rule like “no video cameras” don’t just consider it odd or maybe dangerous, consider all the incidents that had to take place for our slow and often unjust government to take notice of.
As a psych NP my heart hurts and holds hope for all people involved in the foster system ❤

The video monitor for a baby actually surprised me! But it definitely makes sense, I’m glad that it isn’t allowed

i’m clumsy. i agree with the fence thing not even for foster kids, it should be necessary for all pools.

I get the tide thing - my daughter is highly allergic to it, will get red bumps all over her body. It really is a thing - we use arm and hammer instead which seems to work for everyone

Thank you for making a positive channel space about foster parenting without exploiting your children. Much respect to you ❤️

My foster family had an olympic size cement pool. There was a stockade fence around the yard but nothing around the pool itself. One winter 🥶 the pool was empty. I was in the yard and the diving board was still set up. I was springing on the board and suddenly lost my footing. I plummeted in the air downward nine feet. I landed on my bottom and it stung!! Miraculously I was not injured. This is why fences are not debatable. You just put one up and protect your children.

In Ohio, audio and cameras are allowed in public areas of house but not in bathrooms or bedrooms.
We bought audio since our bedroom is quite a distance from rooms for foster kids (haven't had any yet.)
I think cameras are intrusive even in public areas. Porch camera might be a good idea, though.

Do you mean a butcher block or no knives at all? If you don’t have any knives, how do you cut food? That’s an actual question, not me being fresh lol. I’m just curious!! I love your channel so much!!

I still can't believe you're allowed to have a pool *without* a fence AT ALL in the U.S.A....in Aus it is basically illegal to put in a pool without a fence, you will likely receive some large fines from your local council if you tried that. I guess once pools became the "Aussie Dream" for every man and his dog, we just had too many backyard drowning tragedies. The song from the government's water safety campaign will forever be ringing in my head.
"Fence the pool, shut the gate,
Teach your kids to swim, it's great!
Supervise, watch your mate,
And learn how to resuscitate!"

Great video though, never even thought about how nerf guns/pirate daggers etc could actually even be quite upsetting and possibly trigger painful memories & emotions.

I’m from Queensland Australia, here if you have a pool deeper than I think 50cm (I.e a blow up kiddy pool) it by law must have a permanent fence with a secure lockable Gate around it, even if it’s a take down above ground pool. As it’s such a hot place before there was this law the number of under 5’s drowning deaths would skyrocket for the hot half of the year, especially around Christmas time when it gets scorching and everyone flocks to the house of the family member with the biggest pool. The kids alive do the 5 campaign (1.learn to swim 2. Shut the gate. 3. Supervise 4. Watch your mate and 5. Learn how to resuscitate) helped too, along with compulsory swimming lessons for 10 weeks out of the year for all primary school kids through the schools.

Surprised by the video monitors! My husband and I are hoping to foster in the next year or two, so we are binge watching your videos! Thank you, Laura.

I love spraying water in the pool but don’t use fake guns for ideological reasons. I really like the foam tubes with a stick on the end. Pull in water, push it out. It’s also a lot more tactile!

I have a sensitivity to most laundry detergents and my whole life I thought I had an allergy to the perfumes, so I have used "All free and clear" detergent forever. But, one time I tried an off brand "free and clear" detergent and I broke out in a rash. I feel like I should have caught on earlier because I can use fabric softener with perfumes, but I finally realized maybe it wasn't the perfume. So, I compared the ingredients with the off brand detergent with All, and the only difference was acrylic polymer! This makes total sense because my fingers puffed up to twice their size the one time I tried getting acrylic nails! So, if you have kids who can only use All free and clear- it may be the acrylic polymer.

During the summer if the kids want to have a squirt gun fight, you can always put water in a spray bottle and have them have their fun safely.

Also, I have raised four children and I have always wanted to do foster care. Watching your videos has really inspired me to go ahead and go after this. There are so many children out there who need a safe space. My husband was in and out of foster homes most of his life. Some of the horrible things he told me that happened in those houses were just too sad. Don’t get me wrong, he did go to a few that he thought were very nice. Very kind loving people. But there were people that were obviously not in it for the right reasons. And that’s so sad to me. I can’t imagine someone mistreating one of my little angels.

I live in Australia where all pools must be fenced ( and signed off by a council rep). Even small pools such as above ground ones. It is strongly enforced.
