One day, on a casual hike through the Rwenzori mountains in western Uganda, we stumbled upon a secluded village that apparently doesn't get many visitors from abroad. I mean, like none. The reactions to seeing a muzungu (white person) for the first time were...well, let's just say unexpected.

Reminds me of a story my 80 y/o neighbours told me once. I live in rural Germany and at the end of WWII, when my neighbour was a toddler, some American soldiers built a swing for the kids in the village. Then all of a sudden, a black American soldier appeared and everyone was scared of him, since they'd never seen a black guy before. When the other kids ran away, they left my neighbour on the swing and since he couldn't get out, he started crying and thrashing around. Turns out, a chocolate bar was all it took for him to realise that this strange looking man meant no harm 😂❤
