I think Dr Mike means relative to oneself. So a bigger version of you will be stronger than a smaller version. But person A who weighs 190 might be stronger than person B who weighs 220. We see that all the time

The irony of tiny Vegeta overpowering a larger Superman on that shirt isn't lost on me.

I learned this doing glute exercises next to women with big asses and little muscle elsewhere....they were loading up twice my weight. It was embarrassing.

I'm so glad that strength gain is a reliable indicator of hypertrophy. It validates all the routine and diet regimen.

Ive always maintained that training for strength (1-3 reps) is basically teaching yourself to use the muscle you've got more efficiently

There's definitely an interesting balance of strength with the different builds of different athletes- it'd be neat to see an MMA style strongman contest testing bodyweight, longer cardio and higher rep endurance than the lower <20 rep, short walk and higher weight tests of usual WSM events.

There's a more nuanced point when you get to advanced levels of lifting and depending on how you train you can heavily emphasive strength over muscle growth, but since this is Dr. Mike, I'm sure in whatever video this comes from he explains this.

I wasn't listening because I was staring at his shirt and laughing so hard at the accuracy lol

Yeah there is a really common misconception among some "functional strength" nerds that big muscles don't mean anything. Sure, a small guy can be stronger than a bigger guy, especially when it comes to specific movements (like SBD) but the bigger guy will have a bigger strength potential and will probably do better in allround strength stuff outside of specific movement patterns that you can specialize in (like SBD). Strength relative to bodyweight is a bit different of course.

not entirely, but it can correlate in cases. it primarily depends on how said size was developed. aiming for size will not give you strength, but developing strength will give you some degree of size in the process. especially if you're eating a lot for it etc, although your tendons/nervous system actually determines the strength in your movements far more than your muscles do. your muscles are more like electrical wires than like an engine.

This is true to the individual, i have seen 150lb people stronger than 200lb, bigger hands, joints muscles, everything but some people are actually just different. Don't underestimate anyone, someone could neurologically be superman compared to someone who just looks big
