Letrozole - Femara for treatment of PCOS

There are two categories of fertility drugs - pills and injections. The most commonly used pill is called clomid. However, not all women will ovulate on clomid. Women who don’t ovulate as a result of PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome are often resistant to clomid and fail to ovulate.

Recently, a well done study compared clomid to another oral medication - Letrozole (also known as Femara). The study showed conclusively that for women with PCOS, letrozole was associated with a greater chance for ovulation and pregnancy. Importantly, there was no increase in the chance for birth defects.

As a result of this study and others, fertility experts now view letrozole as the first line fertility treatment for women who don’t ovulate due to PCOS

Hi Dr.Moris, good day sir. Is monthly mid-cycle pain(Mittelschmerz??)a sure indication of ovulation? If it is, does the pain tally with ovulation, or does it come before or after ovulation?
Also, if a woman has never had Premenstrual symptoms before then she suddenly starts having them, (though relatively mild) is it considered normal?

From last 2, 4 days I have brown spotting I didn’t bleed yet. And this medicine have to take 2nd day of periods. If I see blood flow then i will start this medicine ?? Or have to take when I seen the blood spot because internet says when you bleed 2nd day of period have to take

Hi Doc, I’m on my second cycle of letrozole. 1st was 2.5 mg +OPK CD 15 with a progesterone level of 30.5 no success. 2nd cycle 5 mg +OPK CD 12 with a progesterone of only 13 no success 😢. Is there any reason why my cycle switched like that or why my progesterone dropped so low? I usually have 30 day cycles like clock work. Thank you 🙏🏽

My daughter took 6 cycles of Clomid for unexplained infertility, she has only ovuated 3 times in 18 months and one of those times was one of the cyles of Clomid and she actually had a normal 28 day cycle for the first time in her life. She is now trying Letrozole. Hopefully it will work.

Is there a difference between pco and pcos? I have regular periods and a high reserve. At expected ovulation my follicles weren’t big enough which is when i heard pco. But i’ve never been diagnosed

My doctor suggest to take letrozole 2.5 twice a day..it means day and night..or 2tabets at a time.pls rply
