Thanks for sharing this. Was just reading his bio and it mentioned this song, glad the google knew where it was. It's not a great song, but it's great proof that few if any succeed on every attempt. It's obvious I know. But so many people think the "True greats" never had any failures, when truth is, the truly great are not those who avoid failure, they're the ones who overcome it.

The intro sounds just like Love Hurts by the Everly Brothers. Classic Knopfler's trick — taking the idea from someone and making It completely his own. Also, some of The Beatles in it, some of The Doors, some of The Kinks. A true classic.

The harmony of the chorus sounds a bit like "True Love Will Never Fade"...

And it looks like the National Style “O” resonator guitar was already there!! (Probably belonging to Steve Phillips, friend and future member of The Notting Hillbillies, in the 1990s).

If only the sound was better. The music may have been good, and I love his singing voice, but the sound doesn't sound very good. It may have simply faded from incessant use, who knows?
