We're on a mission to get Vince serving 125mph! Hope it helps you add some speed to your serve too!

Great lesson again Tom - love it. Two keys learned: "... need to get the elbow being thrown and the racket playing catch up [Racket Lag in Serve Motion] - this is AWESOME advice. And "the Forward Tilt at the point of Contact with the upper body is about 38 degree (not 37 or 39 degree :) - If not you don't have the super Dynamic Finish where the Body's tilting forwards & the Lower Half's going back ..." - Best comparison - illustration Picture of the Year at 3:21 / 5:20 (Wish I can paste the picture here :)

Basically identical to what you were helping me with yesterday, and the immediate results were fantastic. Looking forward to seeing the new evolution of my serve

Excellent analysis. I'm proud that I noticed the low and inside elbow immediately! I'm becoming a TPA disciple and I think my team is going to benefit for it!

Vince has a great leg drive to contact. You can see the power this generates. That'd be a good video to do one of (with tips on how to do that), how to get that leg drive to contact . Something to do with the racket not going behind the head before the legs have begun to straighten. Vince begins to straighten well before the racket goes behind the head. I agree with Slavi that he is unnecessarily going up when he would get more power going forward....wish i could do that

Good video. I like where you say drive upwards and forward. You definitely want both upward and forward movement as you drive up to contact. I think you said drive the elbow up at a forward angle which is a good tip. Driving upwards will add a bit of topspin to even first serves and help pull the ball down with pace. They analyzed Sampras' 1st serve and found he had a steeper spin angle than most other servers on his 1st serve. He drove upwards and forward to contact and tossed closer to 12 o'clock than 1 o'clock to the the topspin rotation on his 1st serve.

Thanks to your ‘feed serve’ video we saw great progress. Serve improved a lot as well as return of serve when on the receiving end, and the rhythm of the first few balls after serve. Only downside is what started a few months ago as a casual feed serve now is a full on serve. Lol

I was reading an article on 'tactical tennis', that analysed Federer, Kyrgios, Raonic serves. Apparently they toss so that the ball is to the inside of the left hip on contact on slice and flat serves. This seems to help massively in getting a coil, a back bend as well as a forward, rather than vertical, motion. Much better feel than the ball being further to the right.

You are spot on in your analysis. Still it is an impressive serve even with this defect.

I'm somewhat in agreement with you. I think that how much you toss into the court is rather controversial. If you look at Fed's toss, he gets between 3-6 inches in front of him. He uses his rotation and his jump to hit that ball accurately on the average around 120 MPH. Now one can argue that if he tossed further into the court say 6 to 12 inches, he could get a lot more MPH on his serve. And interestingly enough when he was younger, he was recorded to have hit a 141 MPH serve. But he would not be as accurate and so he has traded MPH for accuracy. I've noticed that less you toss into the court the more times your ball will land in. For most players who are not around 6'7", it's hard to toss into the court that much and maintain consistency or accuracy. Now Vince is fairly tall, he looks like he's tossing about 3 inches in front of him. He could toss maybe 6 inches in front and get more power and not sacrifice too much accuracy.

What's the priority - working on the elbow drop or on the weight transfer in the direction of the target? My (uninformed) thought is to prioritize the weight transfer because the elbow *may* have to lift to keep up with the motion. Yet, what do I know? Wait. I know if you keep up those transitions, you'll get flagged for explicit content.🔥

Is he pushing off his back foot? I’m not seeing it. Just seeing him go straight up. Isn’t forward direction more effective with weight transfer from back foot? Definitely get more power pushing off the back foot.

Yes, he has a drop in his elbow which makes him lose power. I’d be happy with his serve though!

Whatever, just remember that if you are tweaking and want the serve to be more variety and with pinpoint accuracy, you can’t be thinking it as a throwing motion
