My dad is an old IBM AS400 guy and now works with completely different apllication stuff now. He could care less about the physical layer. He's super hyperfocused on the applications and is great at proving it is or isnt the sftp or other proprietary stuff he uses.

I have never even heard him pronounce ethernet until recently. He says it like the kids and he's got 15 years on you Eli...

He does say "sequel server" if it is any consolation....

I have been studying and homelabbing it up for six months. Not sure my end goal yet. Before we could Wondows and Linux stuff a bit. We had our first networking convo the other day and it was cool to literally meet in the middle of the OSI layers...
