I think one of the points of repeat bosses in Pikmin 2 was to show how much stronger you are now with all your new tools, purple pikmin and the knowledge, but they went way overboard in nerfing them.

I like how the puffy blowhog from 4 is absent from this list because it's insane that they even made him into a boss.

Just another small note on the Breadbug: I love so much that the fight starts when you enter the floor, and you don't even realize it. I remember dropping down, seeing -FINAL FLOOR-, and saying aloud "aaaalright, where's the boss... Alright... Hm.... I guess I'll just start clearing stuff."

The Breadbug had taken most the food before I touched him once. He won before I knew he was a threat.

It's very telling that Pikmin 1 bosses were scary, tanky, more erratic, and just overall far more dangerous. That's the whole point after all, in Pikmin 1 you are stranded, helpless and afraid, Olimar is only surviving due to the influence of the Pikmin themselves, his lack of understanding of the vastly more hostile planet.

Come Pikmin 2, you're no longer on limited life support. You aren't fighting to survive, you're on a treasure hunt. Instead of the panicked commands of a survivor fighting tooth and nail, you return as a seasoned commander, without the pressure of nearly inevitable demise at the forefront of every choice.

The difference in design actually does an excellent job communicating the feeling of the games... It'd do a better job of things if purples and sprays didn't turn almost everything into a joke, which I never actually figured out as a kid lol

To me, Pikmin 4's smokey prog was best in the night levels. On your first playthrough, you dont know he is there. Due to how the night causes you to split your forces, he is a much bigger threat

Feel like Gildemander got done a little dirty here. It's one of extremely few bosses in 4 where you have to do more than indiscriminately charge with Oatchi once, it at least has some potential to do damage unlike many things you rated higher since things can go wrong with Pikmin being attracted to the gold or attacking near the face if they miss one of the boils, and it at least has an original design unlike most bosses in 4.
I don't see why it would, for any reason, be placed below the Pikmin 4 Snagret or Crusted Rumpup.

What I'm hearing. Is that Oatchi was introduced later in development and they either they didn't go back to rebalance the fights, or they felt the fights were too hard, so they let the Oatchi basically bypass all the balancing that might have been that were in place prior to his introduction.

IMO it's unfair to judge Smoky Progg based on the Cavern for a King encounter because the Progg is really just there as a formality. It's like ranking the Pikmin 4 Waterwraith based on its encounter in the same cave. You could argue the entire night mode is there to gas up the Smoky Progg. Individually, it's not that hard, but it's not supposed to be. Its difficulty is very much linked with the pressures and threats of night exploration. It probably still goes lower than what I thought it would be based on difficulty because I played under the assumption the Smoky Progg OHKO'd the Lumiknolls when it doesn't, but it's certainly not piss easy when you're forced to split captains and defend from multiple threats at the same time.

Kinda disappointed hey Pikmin wasn’t included given how amazing its final boss was, this game deserves more love ngl

In defense of Pikmin 4 : the real "bosses" of the game were the timed dandori challenges which IMO fits the Pikmin vibe much more than bossfights. The multitasking and planning how many pikmin you put on each task was a really fun part of 1 that I missed and dandori challenges filled that spot nicely.

Let's go finally got to see a video right as it comes out instead of weeks later.
Loved the video! I am glad to see I'm not the only one who thought p4 reusing bosses and not buffing them was bad.

Every pikmin 2 boss fight is elevated for me by how good the boss theme is

I feel like Pikmin 4 was designed as Pikmin 3's Normal difficulty... but then they never added higher difficulties. If they made a Hard and postgame Ultra-Spicy, with Ultra Spicy making enemies faster, bulkier, and giving mainly nonlethal enemies ways to threaten enemies, as well as nerfing Oat Cheese and Freeze in general

One thing that makes Groovy Long legs cooler to me is that it IS the music

Pikmin 4's Snootwhacker does have a scary arena: the white pikmin onion dandori challenge. The gate that blocks the onion has the huge variant, and because of the metal theme, there is a very high chance you might loose pikmin.

Yo, that's my tiermaker tier list! Great video!

I think P4 bosses fall off because it's more focused on dandori and puzzles same way P2 also focused harder on being a colectathon combat just is such a low priority in P4

Great video as always! I think you're waaaay harsher on 4 than I would be, but I get it. The boss fights are easy, but no game in the series keeps me grinning ear-to-ear as much as 4, boss fights included, and the Sirehound is the best fight they've ever made.

Also, one point of order on 4's emperor: they gave him a roar that both frenzies pikmin and wakes up the other one in the arena. That caught me totally off-guard the first time I played, and is worth a whole tier bump by itself imo.

I think it's weird how the reasons the Pikmin 2 Giant Breadbug is in S tier have literally nothing to do with the Giant Breadbug itself, also in 4 the Giant Breadbug floor has a Bulbear whereas Anode Beetles in Pikmin 2 are only dangerous if you're stupid, "I know you can do the same thing with purples in two but you have to have purples, first of all" When do you not have Purples in Pikmin 2? They are literally the best pikmin in that game, why would you not bring them into every cave? (aside from the Submerged Castle obviously)

The mammoth snootwacker actually does has an arena with bottomless pits in the fifth level of the master trials
