The harder ball allows more spin and you have to be a really good player to take advantage. The softer ball lowers the spin which lowers the fade and draw and may be better for more novice players. Best to use the harder balls and correct your swing vs getting used to the soft. Also the harder balls require faster swing speed to get the same distance as it doesn't compress as much.
