Looking back on my older videos, I'm so happy that "stay fresh, roll lucky, and I'll see you next time, peace" did not become a god damn catchphrase.

*Wisely.*

My two cents :

My first character was a ranger back in 3.5 (different rule set) and my DM basically described him as Aragorn from LotR. So I went in, built him as a bastard sword user to alternate between two-handed swings and sword & board, I completelly ignored the ranged options and basically made a fighter with less attack / standing power but more exploration utility witch ended up saving my part's ass more than one time given they where mostly spell casters and a rogue.

My best character now, was indeed in 5th edition and was called John. He basically was a retiered town guard, mid-50's, took a nasty hit to the leg. He was enjoying retierement when his town went under attack, he managed to get his familly (wife, two kids) in safety and got them all (plus a few other citizens) in the next town thanks to the rest of the party. Sending his familly to his wife's sister in the capitol, he embarked with the party to uncover the truth behind the attack and help protect the realm. He was a champion fighter, the most boring fighter archetype to play, but given his large mastery of weapons, his heavy armor and his "dad" character, he quickly became the de-facto leader of the party, first in the fray, last one to leave.
That campain went up from lvl 1 to lvl 20, we uncovered the work of cultists, took a trip down the abyss and ended up fighting Tiamat then her great priest having transfered hi soul in the Tarasque body (think physical tarasque, mind and magic powers of a 20th lvl cleric). With both fights almost back to back, the tarasque teleporting in the capitol during our triumphant return from the Abyss.
By that point we were lvl 20, ready to wrap it all up, and boom ! surprise tarasque with 150IQ and divine magic to boot.
John died during that fight, protecting his comrades and his family (still living in the city) and was forever remembered as the normal guy, the tranquille hero, and the tarasque killer given that his sword indeed gave the last killing-crit of the fight.

No character's class is boring, only what you make of them.

Ps : sorry for the eventual mistakes, I'm not a native english speeker.

My first character is (still active. Started April this year!) a Circle of the Stars Druid. When you were talking about the complexity of the spell casters, and boy are you right. It took me 5 hours just to make my character, and look over all the spells. Now that I’ve got a few games under my belt I’m finally getting the gist of it. I’m happy with my Druid, but i do kind of wish i started with fighter or barb haha. Great video again though. Enjoy watching these!

Warlocks don't need to take or exclusively use eldritch blast, but for beginners the fun of gradually buffing this bread and butter spell is definitely a good suggestion.

The Lizardfolk palabarian (Paladin and barbarian multi class) I played had a special homebrew rule that she could use her divine smite when she made a bite attack. In a moment of silliness, Divine Chomp was born and it became a genuine thing for her!

Not a beginner anymore, but enjoyed that a lot. I actually like the longer videos, but ur shorts are funny and informative as well, even tho some of them are memes flying around the community for a while, like the pesant railgun for example, but there were still lots of things i didnt think of yet. Keep 'em coming^^

My first character was an artificer. Wasn’t having a good time with it and my DM graciously let me make a new character. Made a champion fighter and having a much much better time.

I know this is a longer video, but don't worry I've got more shorts and combo stuff coming soon too! If you have any feedback on this vid please let me know, and I'll try more like this if this video does okay

Total tabletop noob here... I was actually looking into a wood elf or halfling rogue as my first character. Leaning toward wood elf. So glad rogue is S class

All in all, I agree pretty much with this video. When I created my first character, I had never played D&D but I had watched hundreds of hours of Critical Role. I decided to go Monk, as they seemed pretty simple yet versatile at the moment. Definetely wanted to avoid spellcasters. Now I think monk is my favorite class, and I love my monk.

the only thing i disagree with is that Druid should be lower, its my favorite class in the game personally, but for a NEW player, managing spells, AND wildshapes is a nightmare and can really stuff up your game if you arent prepared and have 9 character sheets for all your beast shapes at all times. Literally my favorite class, but i would NEVER tell a newbie to play one as their first character.

I feel like sometimes playing the more simple classes is a good opportunity to practice your rp rather than worry about class mechanics. Granted if you've been playing a while it's not hard to do both.

I've always been a warlock player. I just love how customizable they are and how weird you can get with things, but you can also go super simple and just be a eldritch blast monster

Played as a wizard on my first ever campaign, had the read the whole spell book and basically read the rest of phb to make sure I understood the game before I chose my spells and I have honestly never regretted my decision as I now feel that other classes are much easier to pick up.

I’d love to see your take on how this tier list changes as a player becomes more experienced and comfortable with the game.

I actually chose a Sorcerer for my first D&D character and, while I can’t compare it to anything else since that’s been my only character so far, I will say that it was definitely tricky trying to get the hang of things.

Definitely agree about the Artificer. Such a useful and fun class, but you need a LOT of meta knowledge to really make it work. Knowing the magical item list for the game so you can know what to duplicate, knowing what your party needs to do their jobs better, etc. Like, it's a class so complex to play that you almost need DM level experience and knowledge, lol.
