I've tried other turban directions and have not been happy with the outcome. This one seems pretty straight forward and there won't be lots of adjusting when it's done. Here are the directions typed out the best I could for anyone who wants written directions to bring to the cutting table. I had to watch the video a few times to get certain details, like which way is the rectangle facing when folded and sewn, so I added that to the directions below. I hope it helps!
You will be cutting three separate pieces of fabric:
1.) a rectangle with dimensions Head circumference +1 x 13-15"
2.) a second rectangle 3"x4"
3.) a square measuring your head circumference divided by 3. This one you will fold in half in one direction and then fold in the other direction (perpendicularly). Using a saucer or plate, place the plate so that it's covering the folds; on opposite corners, trace the plate so that the unfolded edges are exposed. Pin and cut that off. When opened, you should have a circle.
Laying the first piece down "landscape" and fold so that the left and right sides are lined up. Sew.
Lay out 3x4" piece "portrait" style and fold it in half so the left and right sides line up and sew them together. Turn right side out with the seam in the middle. Set aside.
Fold the "hat" tube in half, matching the seam. Hand baste along that seam temporarily. Wrap the little tube around the outside of the basted seam and sew near the edge through all thicknesses. Remove the temporary gathering hand stitching.
Pin the circle you made to the raw edges of the hat tube, right sides together and serge. Turn the hat right side out and try on!
