Why did Buddhism Spread so Rapidly in Ancient India

Buddhism originated in the eastern region of India during the sixth century BCE. The sixth century was an important landmark in the religious history of India. It was the period of religious ferment which saw the rise of the Sramana movement . Sramanas were the wandering ascetics. Such sects were common and existed all over India during the sixth century BC. The movement was rooted in the culture of world renunciation that emerged in India during the seventh century BC onwards. The Sramanas renounced or rejected the Vedic teachings, which were the dominant and traditional religious order in India at the time. This culture of renunciation was the basis for several religious and philosophical traditions, which emerged from India, including the Charvaka, Ajivikas, Buddhism, and Jainism. The dominance of Vedic Brahmanism had started to decline.

Buddhism is the main reason why india never had an empire, encompassing the entirety of cultures and communities that existed in the subcontinent, like what the chinese or romans had.

Mauryans called greeks barbarians and never borrowed the knowledge greeks had in philosophy/ science and architecture. The main reason for that was religious beliefs, that can be assorted as xenophobic perception.
