This is a quick how to. On thing to mention is were i filed down the bracket is you can also just compress. I try a few tricks to try and compress it and it would not compress so i filled it down a little and it worked fine completely up to you on your approach thanks again for watching how it helps you replace or change your toyota 4 runner alternator

I actually found the original bolt. I also had a suggestion because I ran in to the same issue with the alternator not fitting at first. I recommend measuring the bottom of the alternator compared to the original. If its the same size like in my case you may just need to take a small sledge hammer and tap it in some and then pry the bottom in to place while pushing in the bolt. To get space to tap the alternator in this case you would need to remove the bottom radiator hose. This would be better than filing anything in my opinion.

Good advice... One more thing you should do is... After you turn the vehicle on and test the voltage, turn on some accessories (High beams, rear defogger, heater fan etc..), then test your voltage again and make sure you are still getting adequate voltage (12.5+). Even at idle, a good alternator should keep proper charge on your battery even with your accessories on. You shouldn't have to rev your engine to get the proper charge providing you have no other issues. Thanks!

My neighbor said the protruding round thing that makes it toooo tight os a bushing if you tap it with a hammer it goes back in and you can get the new one in. It still is tight but you can get it in ! .... We did !

The link I posted is in reference the the alternator "hold down" bolt, that allows the alternator to act as the tensioner pulley for the belt.

I have a 92 toyota pickup and the power steering pump was leaking on to the alt and it caught fire and burnt the wiring and alt. After I removed the alt for replacement I noticed that the top bolt was missing from the alt. I guess I had the bottom bolt tight enough to keep the tension on belt. Anyway does anyone know the size of the top bolt?

Hi, on my car, the alternator red wire was not connected to anything. Does it need to be connected to the red terminal (positive) of my battery. Can I directly wire it to my battery. I have been unable to find where it leads to in my 2004 chevy cavalier
