One thing to mention how the charges change during repolarization. As K+ leaves the axon, the inside temporarily becomes more negative while the outside becomes more positive. Also sodium-potassium channels open after repolarization to allow K+ to reenter the axon and NA+ to escape

Thank you for the very well put explanation. The only thing, however, you didn't mention was the sodium-potassium pump, which is what allows the neuron to return to the resting stage after being hyperpolarized!
