The part about only running the line to the first loop was helpful! I first tried running it all the way down the rod (following a different video) and the line got all tangled at the tip of the pole as I reeled it onto the spool. It was too far away to control and see. The tip about coming off the new line in a counter-clockwise manner helped too, as this apparently corrected the tangling problem I had the first time. In addition, I held onto the new line spool down with my feet, moving each foot as the line came off. It may not have tangled coming off counter-clockwise anyway, but this allowed me to keep a bit of tension on the line and possibly prevent tangling.
