Fantastic video Chris. Interesting with the trip to Africa.
We actually did a trip from Denmark to Ireland and back, this summer. 6300 km in a MY22 XC40 P6. Absolutely fantastic trip with no other issues than 4 pound of weight extra, from all the Guinness and pub food 😂
Close to no charging issues, and we actually got to charge next to the Donegal police😊.

Total cost for 6300 km: 396 €

Best advice - just do it!
If you can do it in Ireland, you can do it everywhere 😎

Looking forward to the video of that trip.

This video does highlight the thinking involved in BEV road trips. Not only do you get different charging speeds at different state of charge, but often driving slower will lead to faster road trips due to efficiency gains and possibly fewer stops. As an American where people live to take road trips across the country it’s interesting to think about.

Also you run the Twin Engine which is less efficient than the C40 Extended Range which has better consumption

Great review Kris and usable tips. I’m driving a XC40 single motor Extended Range since 2 weeks. I’m going to do a long distance trip from Amsterdam to Kopenhagen or Malmö to experience driving a electric car on such a distance.

Great video, but the volum of the music is too loud for the volum of you voice and I have to turn the volume up and down

I look forward to your long journey with the c40 as I am considering buying one next spring, today I drive an ID4 and i3s 120ah and am super happy with both but need a car with a towing capacity of at least 1600kg so we are changing the id4. The choice is between C40, T my, I4 m50 or ev6 (all awd). C40 or T my is most interesting. The i4 is really cool, but an electric car should have a frink, in my opinion, becomes a bit comical with a long bonnet to no avail.
Thanks Kris for all the good tests.

Great to see such good numbers for the C40. I look forward to testing out my RWD Polestar’s navigation and charging on a road trip soon. I also look forward to see you driving a Volvo down to Gibraltar or even further. Morocco is supposedly building some big battery factories, so that would be interesting to check out! They also just had a big earthquake in the central area which is sad.

Thanks for the review very good as always, i have my XC40 EV coming in 2wks so very helpful to know the actual results. Can i say, there seems to be a fascination of what the weather does to range and that's interesting but it does make some EV newbies think its only EV's that are 'blown by the wind' so to speak, but all transport is affected by the weather. An ICE car will use more gas but that is never a predominant review topic for them its about the drive, the handling, 'the fun'... maybe this preoccupation with the true but nerdy issues like the weather is a bit of a turn off. I just want to get in my car and drive not have to watch the weather forecast.

That is amazing Kris, 20min of charging total time for over 600km road trip. For me I would have to stop for well bladder reasons to be honest and to get something to eat at least once as based on say an average of 100km/h that is 6hrs of driving so definitely a food break in there. I just wish the C40 and XC40 were ground up EV's like the EX30 is, and wonder if they'll do a EX40 to replace the XC40.

Suggestion to add the software version to the spreadsheet. There can be changes that you might even want to go back over again later. I know there was a 2.12 version released just a day or two ago for the 2024 model specifically.

8:00-9:00 :: this shows exactly why the imposition of voice-command software in cars is a horrible failure

I can’t help it but that grey and plastics i really ugly. This car in red with painted plastic would look much better.
