I've been a call handler for a year now, thankfully I've only ever had one call where the baby wasn't breathing.

First port of call, after getting the address and age of course, is to ensure there's no obstruction in the mouth (Babies usually don't go into cardiac arrest, it's more likely respiratory arrest); if there is, clear it out immediately. Secondly, we then instruct to blow two breaths into the baby's mouth to check if there is an obstruction further down. If their chest isn't rising with each breath, the airways are probably blocked by something. Finally, CPR and airway management if the previous two things haven't worked.

The baby in my call had started breathing just before we were about to begin the final step, the 2nd step had worked! The baby then regained it's colour (Had turned blue) and the crew arrived on scene and reported that the baby is all well and good but were going to take them to hospital just in case.

Realistically child CPR should be taught to all parents. I know its a situation of lack of resources and the willingness of people to learn it but it should be at least offered to all parents to be as part of their antenatal care.
Ideally basic CPR would also become part of high school curriculum. Everyone thinks they'll never need it and for a vast majority of people you won't but it sure as hell makes you feel better if you stumble into an emergency if you have a basic idea of what to do

As a paramedic myself, the paramedics did a wonderful job staying calm, and intervening. Additionally, excellent work by the emergency medical dispatchers (not sure what they're called outside of the US). Providing calm, accurate step-by-step instructions to the parents, possibility made a world of a difference in this baby's outcome. Excellent work all around!

It's heart breaking when you hear of a child being in severe pain and all you can do is hope for the best.

This is a lot like the first time my sister was in the hospital at 10 months old. They ended up being seizures.

My sister was born prematurely and i remember when she first came home i wouldn't let her go I'd stay downstairs with her all day and at night I'd not be able to sleep as i was so worried for her due to her being premature and having to be checked up on every day and having feedings tubes in her nose i was afraid that anything could happen but lucky she came out completely fine and now 2 years later she is the most clever and mosy wonderful littel girl ever, so seeing this poor baby in the video have that happen i can really understand how the family would have been feelings but thank god the little fella made it out alright in the end :))

“not clear whether the child’s breathing or not” did they not hear repeatedly that he wasn’t? 😭
