When you’re angry write down what you want to say and then read it 24 hours later and be glad you didn’t.

Ego steps first for some people. I had to learn to turn mine off and what a relief it was to let it go.

Love this woman, she talks so much sense! She's also physically like a double for my much loved nana who passed away years ago now 🥰

I typically have the opposite reaction where I want to shut down and not say anything. So when I’m centered I’m able to speak my truth.

So true. That's why we react and respond.

I agree.

That said, sometimes an impulse of immediacy is good.

When I came to terms with how my ego was utilizing my knee jerk reactions is when my life became less stressful, I still have to be very conscious of when this longtime habit rears its ugly head, but each time I apply this technique the ego has less and less power ✌🏽

This is sensible, not that anybody needs my opinion, but it reminds of the way people try and manipulate people.

I can be too quick on the trigger now and then, and come to regret it. Later I will admonish myself for saying or doing something that backfired and I’ll spend several days in regret. I always promise not to make the same mistake twice, but darn if I don’t find myself in the same situation, knowing I screwed up again. Most of the time I’m 0K, enjoying life, being polite and kind, pleasantly getting along with everyone, then I mess it up with a snarky remark when someone inadvertently annoys me. It just pops out. Example: “You do realize that everything you’ve been saying since you arrived has been a complaint?” Or “Is there no other topic of conversation than your annoying I’m-laws?”

Externally vs. Internally oriented. Discernment.

That urgent feeling is often addiction ....to rescue unecessarily, to share a snippet of info, grab attention, correct someone thinking you are wrong to name a few more subtle ones

Absolutely makes sense!! Thank you for reminding me.

Steven Covey said it first with the four quadrants, urgent and important is where most think they are but aren’t proactive and anticipatory in the near and distant future enough to prioritize what the best thing is to do in the moment. Balance within cycles is a wise choice.
