In this video, I tell you whether or not you should warm up your car engine. It is an easy explanation and I incorporate some of the variables like having an older car or starting an engine in cold weather. It is absolutely important that every driver knows this, because you will be starting your car engine every single time that you are ready to drive, so you should know whether or not you have to let it idle for a bit or if you can start driving within a very short time frame or starting the car's engine.

If you are in an older car like mine - a 1999 4runner with 250 thousand miles yes you should absolutely let anything with over 100 thousand miles warm up especially with an automatic transmission

My car has a light saying it is too cold to drive. The light turns off when the engine is up to temp. I'm going by that.

Agree - I use the 50% rule of thumb - Where possible :use no more than [half] the gears / half of the redline/ depress the accelerator no more than half - keep the RPM CONSISTENT

30 seconds idling, raise to 2000 revs for 16 sec. Take off, drive easy for 10 mins. Your are ready to go.

If it’s at 2 revs or higher should you wait until it drops below the 2? That’s what I normally do.

What’s to high of a rev that I should be waiting?

What if you drive a 30 year old car short distances? Like 5 minute trips?

At what or between what speed do you consider driving it lightly? Asking, because every morning I get in, turn on the car, buckle my seat belt, turn on the heater, and I take off to work
I drive at the speed limit 45 mph
Is that good? Because my step dad has been hounding me about me not warming up my car in the mornings saying I’m gonna damage the transmission
But I don’t know if that’s true that you should warm up the car for a few minutes in the winter
or else you’ll damage the transmission?
I don’t do it so that’s why I want to make sure am I supposed to?
Im kind of in a rush in the mornings which is why I also don’t do it
My car is a 2012 Hyundai Accent gls car
Any info is appreciated :)

60 seconds usually is enough time for the tach to level out to normal before taking off...then, .mash it.

For me I always warm up the car, especially since it’s a bmw, need the internals to get its full viscosity. First few minutes of driving I don’t pass 3, 500 RPM, and if the engine is warm starting up I still give it at least 30 to a minute to get the oil circulating. To me it’s 2 important things, oil temperature and the initial flow of the oil when starting up. 18 years later my bmw is so quiet at idle.
