I bought this lens about two months ago - I needed a reasonably cheap tele lens, got it just two days before a trip to Tanzania and Zanzibar; it went through a four - day - safari, tropical rain and a climb to Ngoro-ngoro. If you've been to African savannah then you know that this is the toughest test for any photo gear. And Tamron passed it with ease. Quick and near - silent AF, sharp pictures even on 300mm (from f6.3) and solid feel make it the best investment I made this year.

Well I'm guessing the purpose is to demonstrate the focus sounds on each of the lenses. Tamron's optics is pretty alright, but I will always prefer the silent USM focus.

I've heard alot of bad press concerning the focusing speed of Tamron's 70-200mm F2.8 zoom. Well I've used this lens on my Sony a55 for photographing ice hockey games in rather poor low light conditions and I really don't have much of a problem with it as far as focusing speed goes.

Interesting to see the speed of the 70-300 USD though. I've been considering replacing my ancient Sony SAL75300 with that one for a while. Pretty much on par with Sonys 70-300G by all accounts.

I don't get this kind of tests. What is the purpose? A 300 pounds lens against a 2000 pounds lens?

somehow seem like there's not much difference at all between the Tamron 70-300 VC USD and the Tamron 70-200 f2.8... only difference is the 70-200's focusing motor sound...

I just bought this lense and had some shots with my Canon EOS 60D last weekend, I personally find it produces very sharp and pleasant-colour photos.

of course the faster lens have heavier glass, but that 70 200 was not good in focusing speed, the 70 300 is much faster

btw the canon one was old, but it was the one of ultimate dream lens
