The Tamron lacks stabilization and the stabilization on the 70-200 is insanely good and important for video if you wann shoot handheld. This alone makes the 70-200 the better choice in my use case. For photography alone I could agree with you.

I opted not to buy a 70-200/2.8 when I moved to Sony and instead went with the Sigma 100-400 DG DN lens. Best decision ever, especially for the $750 price I paid for mine. The 35-150 is a nice lens but I didn't want *less* reach, and cropping a 150mm image to approximate a 200mm image will cost you 44% of your pixels. That might be okay with a 60mp camera but not with 24mp.

I just bought the 70200gmii and I am so in love with it. Extremely fast and sharp. Zero regrets. Found a good price on a brand new open box.

Got tired of the size and weight of my bag. Swapped A7IV for A6700 and an 11mm lens.

Busy working out what lenses to use for weddings

Benefit of the Sony 70-200 over all the other zooms is the internal zoom. That says everything. Internal zoom and focus. That means the lens does not extend. There is no weight shift as the lens is zoomed in and out. It is also not very heavy. Couple this lens with the Sony 200-600 (also sports internal zoom), you will have an unbeatable combo. The cost of the Sony 70-200 f4 is well worth it.

The 70-200GM2 is superior when it comes to focus shift when zooming.. I have had 2 versions of the 35-150 now, and they are both sold again.. When zooming the Tamron 35-150 completely lose focus on moving subjects. So it's a great lens for static subjects..

The Tamron 50 400 is now my go to Lens and covers all the focal lengths for my woodland photography. True is not as fast but it’s of no consequence to me😊👍

As always, use case matters. For someone like me, this 35-150 would be a complete waste of money because I'd never take it out due to its size. Admittedly though, I typically don't use lenses longer than about 75-85mm so a wide zoom or prime plus a long prime will be a fraction of the size & weight of any long lens.

The moment this comes out native on the Canon RF mount, I'm shelling out! I do love the 70-200 for sports, but if I had one of these for non-sports events, I wouldn't need to use a second body with a 28-70! And it would be ideal for portrait shoots as I generally go 35 for environmental shots, or 85-135 for tighter portraits and headshots. PERFECT!

I don’t think so !!
You forgot that cropping simply cuts out a portion of the photo. It doesn’t make the background tighter. I’ve been working with the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 for over a year, and I decided to switch to the Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 Mark II for exactly that reason — I want the background to be tighter.

I have this lens and the new 20-40 as an alternative to the “holy trinity”. It’s very versatile for street photography and weight is not a problem (many 24-70 are even heavier), but its bulkiness will certainly get people alerted that they’re being shot😂

What would you do in my situation. I have a 35m 1.4 and an 85 1.4... What I want is a lens that can capture mountains that are further away. I'm not usually up in the mountains but want something to be able to get cool scenic shots from far away. The 70-200 seemed interesting to me because it could capture that further range but not be a huge lens (currently on the a7cii) - Would you still recommend the 35-150?

in crop mode, the 24-105 is a 35-150. they are everywhere in the secondhand market now.
if you live in a bright country, f2 is not useable. VND is a pain shooting into the sun.

I'm a Stage Photographer, where the required focal length range is around a light wide angle (capturing poses of multiple Artists) and medium Tele (Portraits and Scene shots) - paired with low light issues. 24-70/2, 8 lacks enough reach for close-up shots and 70-200 gave me a miss at several Band poses - F4 in any case is not enough shooting in Club situations and extraction of Background stuff and foreground microphone stands. Working with 2 Camera systems is a mess (and even to slow for capturing epic poses) - and I looked a long time for a all-in-one solution.
And so I found the 35-150 which the ideal lens for this area of application, featuring the right focal lengths and appropriate aperture range in one package. One should not forget the weight of this Glass, which is substantial in working hours - but as most professionals are capable of suffering from heavy equipment, this should be not a issue.

I've had this fantastic lens for a few months now and I confirm everything: for me it is one of the best zoom lenses ever made: yes, the weight in the long run takes its toll, and it's not a compact zoom, but it has unbeatable versatility, coupled with superlative optical quality when you consider the focal range! I really recommend it to everyone!

I always travel with my tamron 28-200. Amazing tool

I totally support your assessment. I made the same consideration on my DSLR, with the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD. While it may not have a constant aperture of f/2.8 (or the f/2-2.8 aperture of this mirrorless version), it is a tack sharp lens along the whole zoom range, and it's smaller and holds half the weight of an average 70-200mm f/2.8. I like the zoom range better as well, giving me more on the wide end, although less on the tele end. But I wasn't using the 150-200mm end that much anyway.

Love that lens. It’s excellent. So versatile. I use it for gig or concert photography and it’s brilliant for it and I get great results.

I'll stick to the lenses I have: the Sony 35mm 1.8 & the Tamron 70-180mm. I think cost & weight end up comparable, and they cover the same focal & aperture range, but having to always carry that beast of a 35-150 just wouldn't work for me.

The 35-150 f2-2.8 weighs 1170 gm - while there 28-200 mm f2.8-5.6 is only 580 gm. If you can live with less brightness, and or you want to use it for several hours at a time, the 28-200 seems a better option.
That’s if it’s of similar sharpness to the 35-150 - has anyone compared the two?
