Summer Bookings From Europe to US Down 25%: Accor CEO

Accor CEO Sebastien Bazin says forward bookings for the summer from Europe to the US are down 25% amid what he says it's "probably anxiety to go in an unknown territory." Speaking to Bloomberg's Oliver Crook, Bazin adds that overall bookings for the summer remain "strong."

Why tourism is down: 1) arbitrary detentions of tourists, 2) public unrest, 3) open (war) treats against the EU and individual EU countries. Ask yourself: would you like to go onto vacation to a country that is threatening your existence?

I'm in Ireland and I've been to Virginia many times, but now just the thought that half of the people around me are likely to have voted for Trump fills me with such disgust and revulsion that I'd just rather not go. Nevermind that I no longer trust the immigration officials. Who needs that sort of worry?

25% is a lot ering that it is a much bigger deal for Europeans to travel to the US than for Canadians. Therefore most of us book a long time in advance to get the best deals. And it costs too much for many to cancel. Give this time, and next summer it will be 75% of this year's 75%.

Me and my partner were all set to fly from UK to New York City and then a road trip through several US states this June.

But we changed and are now booked to fly to Toronto & explore Ontario & Quebec provinces instead.

Why would anyone want to visit the U.S. over the next 4 years, given the daily changes to the immigration policy. Speak with your wallets. Imagine having all the correct documents, and be subjected to being held for “further examination.” By officers with unlimited power.

My friend here in the UK works at Heathrow Airport and has told me passenger numbers have plummeted by 70% to the US in the past few months 😊
