What causes red eyes when swimming?

Do your eyes turn red after swimming in a swimming pool or at a water park? The chlorine may not be the culprit.

Everyone in the comments are making jokes about goggles... I had goggles and this still happened as some water did still hit my eye. Maybe also because I had laser surgery a week ago and I guess the eye is still sensitive, it's the next day and my right eye is bright red....
