Filmmaker vs Videographer vs Cinematographer

The community of creators who deal with the creation of making movies, commercials, marketing videos & social media content can often get confused of the roles that partake to being a filmmaker, a videographer & a cinematographer.

Also many of you will tell me i say cinematographer wrong. just note thats the Patois (or Patwa) within my language barrier along with my dyslexic tone of speech. Put some ease to it cause not every language can pronounce words accurately especially when someone struggles with dyslexia 🤷🏽‍♂️

Even though these positions stand for creation, they have a different meaning & role to what the position offers.

Nowadays I feel like I am filmmaker more than a videographer because I am always involved with every project I have done from beginning to end. I never saw myself as cinematographer because I don't command a team. I am a videographer per se but I do lighting, audio, storyboards, everything. So I can't say I am just a videographer. So filmmaker fits me just fine.

I don't like to call myself a "content creator" because I feel like nowadays anyone who posts videos on tiktok or reels calls themselves a "content creator."

I've worked on movie sets as the camera operator, made commercials, YouTube videos, Tiktoks, but calling myself a content creator makes me feel like I'm putting myself at the bottom of the ladder.

I like to think of filmmaking as someone who works directly with film considering how a lot of movies are still shot using film. I think most people on YouTube are just very good story tellers and good at teaching people information through digital making.

I don’t think a film maker at a wedding is only limited to shooting what happens, they can also have an input in giving some direction on the day.
Also I find content creation limited, maybe you’re a visual story teller, a visual artist

Awesome video man. I love the definitions and it's something I'm struggling to define myself. I'm not a big fan of the word "content" though. This video is content. A TikTok of some dude farting in the wind is "content". There's a clear difference.

When I worked in TV, we called everything we did "creative". A TV promo would be creative. An IG reel would be creative.

Creative creator? Doesn't really vibe.
