Noticed the airbag light was on while you were driving. In UK that is an MOT (road worthy test) fail and would render the car illegal if driven with no MOT and is required every year. A specific BMW scanner can clear it for not much money.
An old Z4 will probably need the roof motor repositioned to stop it failing. The coolant expansion tank and various belts and gaskets all need looking at at this mileage. Also the window cables and door handles become unreliable. The 6 cylinder engines are strong as is the running gear. This is good for a twenty year old car though and all are fixable without breaking the bank.

I have had a 2005 Z4 2.2 lt for 4 years now. It has just clicked 91, 000kms. I have changed the wheels for 19 inch, have had to put in a new steering rack as the last one failed and no one here in New Zealand could fix it, new fuel/ air mixer, (Whatever thats called.) New water reservoir, new window washer pump, had to clear the Airbag light twice as the bastard thing keeps coming up for no reason, the transmission light has come up a few times but have cleared it thanks to YouTube and its not come back. I take it out only when I can have the top down. I love it to bits. Its got no rattles or squeaks, very responsive, has a stainless exhaust, so sounds hot without being stupid, and although only 2.2 lt, in sports mode can push you back in the seat like taking off in a 737.The best thing is the design. I can sit in a cafe and look at the lines of the body and think, these have to be the most intricate design lines of anything I have ever owned. I paid 9 k for it and have spent nearly that to get it to where it sits now, however the thrill of owning it and the buzz when I unwrap it on a Sunday afty and blow the moths out, far outweigh the toll.

I own a 2004 E85 since I bought it new. 160K miles, just had a complete overhaul done - all new suspension, bushings diff mount. The N52 engine if well maintained will give anyone a very long useful life. My wife's 2007 X3 3.0si with 216K miles runs as good as it did new as a BMW company vehicle with 10K miles. I will never sell my Z4...never skip maintenance and DIY skills makes the difference.

I bought my 04’ 2.5 liter E85 Z4 with 70k miles on it. I now have 107k miles on it in just 4 years of ownership. It is very reliable and as long as you address the “typical” BMW issues, it is a great car.

Just bought a 2006 Z4M yesterday, picking it up from the dealership today. It has less than 40K on the clock.

Love my 2005 Z4. Never selling it!
I had to do a transmission rebuild, though. Painful to the wallet.
I will be doing a manual swap if my auto gives me more issues.

My dad got this car from a guy for 600 bucks and I loved driving it when I was 14 and now that I’m 16 I really want to buy one cause we ended up selling it, I love that it’s small and has a decent amount of space in the back and pretty cheap, and I hear people say bmws break down a lot but good thing my dads a mechanic and he’s been teaching me for a while now

So many out there with high mileage. Pretty reliable with the M54 and N52 engines.

You can also fit a small suitcase in if you want to go away for a weekend, the boot space looks even better in person. You can also take out the parcel shaft to create more vertical room too.

I have a 2004 Z4 3.0i with almost 61, 000 miles, ordered it new (original owner). It is always garage kept and is in excellnt condition. Love this car, but I'm looking to sell. I just don't drive it that much plus I'm getting older. Nice video

The Z4 can fit a foldable bike into it, both Birdy bike or Brompton bike, it is a surprisingly large boot. I always got my Z4 to shop for groceries at Costco. It is not a quick car but does great in handling and has a stylish exterior.

To serve you the best feeling when driving this little convertible, have it in good shape about mechanics, then go for the mountains run, and you'll know what I mean.

Also worth considering the Coupe version.

The convertible (E85) went to 2009 I think, the Coupe was 3.0L straight six only, 2006 to 2009 (Facelift styling same as the later E85s)

Great vid

I have the exact same spec but in manual and absolutely love it. I already put 20k miles in a year and it’s been great. If you can afford to lose the practicality with a two seater, you should get it!

The rattling means your suspension rubbers need replacing. I replaced mine at 18 years old, 35k miles.

I live in the UK, I have a 2006 BMW Z4 2.5i straight 6 engine with Manual Gear Box and less than 40k Miles full service history for £7.5k 3 years ago from BMW with full service history, it is a fantastic car, I sold my 6 year old Peugeot 208 1.2 litre for £6.5k so the Z4 cost me £1k, I was thinking of buying another boring 1 year old PUG to drive around for 5 years and lose money on and thought why not find a good Z4 and spend some money on upgrading whatever it needs over the next 5 years, 3 years later I need to spend a small fraction of what I would have lost buying a 1 year old car and I have had a hell of a lot more fun and strangely because of my age and the age of the car my insurance is 3/4 of the price! Have fun driving the Z4 Great Choice :)

I invested over $7, 000 this year in the new interior, ceramic sealant and new wheels on my 2003 Z4 E85 2.5i. I don't really care if I get it back if I sell it. It looks brand new and is no less striking than a Lamborghini, especially since the seats and parts of the doors are covered with original Lamborghini leather in the color Arancia Mira.
