As first a Rolex owner and then a five Grand Seiko owner, Rolex is of no further interest to me. I keep one Rolex for sentimental reasons as it was my first good watch but I will never darken the door of a Rolex boutique again. The build quality, finishing and movement engineering/performance of Grand Seiko cannot be equaled.

Honestly, I’ve got mostly sub $500 dollar Seikos, Bulovas and Citizens. I’m mesmerized by the dials of these Grand Seiko’s. Absolutely spectacular

There was a time when I too was obsessed with Rolex, and then after being told constantly that they were unavailable - I found myself browsing Jaeger LeCoultre, Grand Seiko, and A. Lange & Söhne. I came to the realisation, I wanted a Rolex because of the label - but when inspecting them closely, having held one, I realised - there was no connection. A Rolex didn't invoke any sort of feeling, it felt overpriced and lacking in inherent value. Where as holding a Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso and Grand Seiko SPGY007 - I felt like I was getting more than what I was paying for. Gorgeous watches, and truly breath taking. I find myself staring at my watch and forgetting the time (counter productive).

Rolex prioritizes marketing, Grand Seiko prioritizes quality and finishing. Which is why watch enthusiasts are migrating to GS while others are "waiting on the call" from an AD while watches are going to flippers to the secondary market and high profile clients for prestige. It's a game I'm not going to play.

Not only is GS the much more stunning-looking watch, but unlike a Rolex on your wrist, no one will ever ask, "Is it real?" I refuse to play the Rolex AD game, and am now the VERY happy owner of four GS watches.

I got my first grand seiko as a gift from a family member, probably the best gift I have received

The dials they produce are simply top notch and spring drive is an awesome innovation in watchmaking.
Also I don’t get why a lot of people say it’s not a mechanical watch. The only thing not mechanical is the regulator of the movement. They just hear that a quartz crystal is involved and they think it’s a quartz movement.
I guess you could call it a hybrid but that doesn’t describe it perfectly either.
For me a mechanical watch is a watch that entirely runs on mechanical energy. And spring drive does exactly that.
Converting mechanical energy into a minuscule amount of electric energy electromagnetically regulate the mechanical system is a stroke of genius and doesn’t take anything away from the beauty and fascination of mechanical movements.

I’m glad GS is starting to get the attention it deserves. They should be considered grail status watches even at the 5-10k range where most of their catalog lives.

This was a spectacular presentation. GS is the first watch I have longed for that wasn’t influenced by any athlete, media, sport or marketing campaign.. or even amongst friends. The watches simply speak for themselves. I think that when you wear a Rolex or AP, Patel or an Omega…people take notice as they recognize the prestige and the brand. But when you wear a GS, even the most ardent of watch enthusiasts or critics will take notice and say “hey, nice watch”.

I had No idea Grand Sieko was a thing. When my grandpa passed he had one with no band just sitting in the "junk drawer" it didnt run and was about to be thrown away, I saw Seiko so I knew it wasn't a bad watch so I grabbed it and my grandma said I could have it. I bought a cheep leather band and took it into the watch shop to get a new battery. The shop owners jaw about hit the floor when He found out I though it was a $200 Sieko. He informed me of what I had. I cherish that watch even though I have no idea how my Grandpa acquired it or even saw him were it.

I have a Snowflake and the Spring Drive is truly the most astonishing movement. The dial is a wonder - you can stare at it for hours. I also have a current model Sea Dweller, which I like in its own way but I have more of an emotional connection with the GS and I expect to own more of them in due course. GS really are absolutely first class watches.

You had me there, until you said GS is something to enjoy "until you get the call." Love GS; disgusted by Rolex.

Originally wanted a Rolex. Finally had the means and became so disillusioned at how hard it was to give Rolex my money I vowed never to buy a watch from them. Started looking at alternatives and purchased a SGBA211 Grand Seiko and a Tudor BB58. Have never looked back and am very happy with my choices.

Good thing is there’s a watch for everyone. People should just buy what they want without hating on another brand or the owner it’s weird behaviour.

Recently picked up my first Rolex watch but I would definitely like to pick up a GS at some point in the future. I had to scratch that Rolex itch and I had the opportunity so you can’t really turn that down. That grand seiko mosaic dial is probably my favorite dial ever hands down period.

Amazing video! Got tired of waiting for "the call" for a Rolex GMT-Master and got myself an Omega Seamaster GMT Deep Black. A Grand Seiko is definitely in my list to get for my collection.
