I'm 20 years old. Grew up with my mother playing this song when I was young. It brings back so much nostalgia and comfort from when my mother would hold me as a child or looking out the window on long car rides. An absolute masterpiece! Makes me want to cry every time I play it.

As a great Van Gogh fan....this totally hits the nail on the head. Such a sad story....told so well in song. Still makes me shed a tear for poor Vincent.

Such a shame how this timeless master piece has become so forgotten in this day and age, at least people back in the 70s appreciated it for what it is.

I am glad that American Pie is one of the only albums my dad owns (it's digital), because it introduced me to McLean's stunning work at the age of eight. I didn't fully understand its depth then, and doubt I ever will, but I fell in love with the melody and emotion behind it. Artists today follow a cookie cutter formula for producing songs, which is why I often find myself returning to the magnificence that is Don McLean's music. Thank you for making my young life all the much better Mr. McLean!

This song has so much depth, it echoed through my house in the 70's forever reminding me of my brother.
RIP Jimbo.
Thank you Don, some songs are so much more.

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I love that you pay tribute to Van Gogh and acknowledge his art and beauty by creating your own. I wish Vincent could hear this, and see how the world sees him now.

Rarely do I hear this song without being moved to tears. What a moving, powerful song. It amazes me how the true masters can elicit so much emotion with just their voice and a guitar. No million watt sound system, no three lead guitars and thundering bass and drums, no dazzling light show or pyrotechnics. Just a man, a voice, a guitar, and a staggering amount of talent. Should you read, or be told of this post, I want you to know that I am forever in your debt, Mr. McLean.

Heard this from the radio a week ago for the first time. I didn't know the title so I searched Starry Starry night as it was what stuck to me.. Glad it brought me here. Now I'm excited to hear more of his songs. I wish more people from the younger generation ( who still don't know him) find his music like I did. When I heard this, I cried so hard cause I know Vincent's story. I wish someone would've written this song of comfort to him back in his days. If not to Vincent, this song-- a masterpiece on its own-- may be a source of comfort and hope to more people.

I will always get offended if anyone says that the new generation does not know this song. This is such a masterpiece. It'll live on forever.

Who would have believed that in 1972 he could perform this so much above the superb quality that he gave us back then? This version is pure classic incredible human exceptional achievement. Thank you Sir.
