This is where my Canadian taxes should go. God bless the HMCS Harry DeWolf, her sister ships and the ambassadors that serve aboard her.

The government need to invest more in the military. We have professional military but the funds are a big problem.

one 25mm cannon? Oh boy, gonna have the world shaking in their boots with this one eh? What else do they have water balloons and stern warnings? "Hey you better get out of Canadian waters, or else we'll tell on you n'stuff"

Should've have a 127mm mk50 main gun and potentially a ciws system. She's undergunned compared to her counterparts.

It's tall, it's big, but only armed with a 25mm cannon. It's like a coast guard ship but serving in the navy. What are you gonna do if you spot a invading Chinese, Russian, or North Korean navy ship? Shoot them with auto cannon?

That single LAV cannon will definitely make the Russians think twice about messing around up there! /s

While it's not too late, give those ships to coast guard (with auto cannon), because it fits their role better (also why coast guard ship has to be unarmed, that just don't make sense...they can at least have 25mm cannon). Meanwhile cancel orders for coast guard version, and use that budget to built more actual combat ships for the navy like type 26.

Well done to Irving Shipbuilding! It's too bad these new ships only have a 25mm gun and 2 x .50 cal Machine Guns! ARM UP!!

China built 60 ships last year....they now have over 600, including the Coast Guard....we have built two for the RCN in 5 years....and eight patrol boats for the RCCG.

A lot of good ideas in the ship but it is terribly under gunned for its size. The Danes, on a 1, 720 ton ship, have a 76 mm gun, versus the 25 mm gun on the Cdn AOPS of roughly 6, 600 tons, and the Danes have Sea Sparrow surface to air missles, and ASW torpedo mount. As one officer pointed out, as a pick up truck the Canadian ship is great and it has a hangar for the helicopter (the Danish does not). But it is hard to credit it as a warship. Hopefully the structure design has taken into consideration a later retro fit for increased armament.

I salute the workers who built this ship, too.

...but i ask, why is Davie Yard starved, if it is capacity building that is the Canadian Governments intention?

How about building a good fleet of subs

This came way too late. Our military has been underfunded for years.

don't get it. It's a top heavy, non-ice-breaking corkscrew of a ship, and likely not the best for search and rescue. On the warship side it lacks any considerable firepower, the main adversary facing us in the arctic is Russia and they wouldn't think twice about engaging a DeWolf vessel...
What is the point?

Is canada going to make or buy submarines to patrol under the ice too?

Not even worth the chinese to take pictures of...

Who builds a patrol ship, only top speed 17 knots. Its expensive, 2 MRI machines, a landing vessel for platoon of infantry, etc. A flight deck room for Cyclone helicopter.
All this deserves better anti air armaments at the very least.
In war, every grey ship is a target.
And this one is a big, slow moving target, with a small 25 mil varmit rifle.
