The ice in the arctic is melting, revealing huge amounts of fossil fuels, rare earths and new shipping routes. And the rush to secure these has already begun. Will countries continue their race for economic and militaristic advantages or will they finally work together to solve the global problem of climate change?

I wrote about this in my undergrad international relations class back in 2008. It’s only continued to trend towards conflict. As the circumstances were so different then, Chinas emerging role in this really expedites things towards a muddier situation ripe for conflict. Hopefully we can label these as zones of environmental stability and a huge need in the overall life of the planet.

Thank you for the video and brining more awareness to others. Makes me wonder about the many other motives of the Antarctica landmass and everyone staking claims down there too, as well as all the chemtrail spraying that seemed to have caused more warmer weather around the globe; that may have sped up the melting. Also the natural weakening of the magnetic field of the Earth and the speeding up and the speeding up and shifting of the poles; most likely brining about erratic weather patterns, jet stream fluctuations, volcanos and earthquakes too. Saw a video the other day from BBC about giant solar lenses in space to beam down microwaves from the Suns energy to earth for power, reminds me of the ancient stories of the large lenses or mirrors they used for power and war. I wish UNCLOS would have never extended the EEZ by adding the complex and contentious clauses regarding extension due to the continental shelf. A clear up to 200 nautical mile from the baseline for the EEZ would eliminate much of the conflict.
