"The Story of SKIP", is an original documentary about the journey of streetball legend Rafer "Skip 2 My Lou" Alston, the first player to make it from the blacktop to the bright lights of the NBA. Skip would be the only player to make it to the league from the popular And-1 streetball scene, becoming a legend for his play at the historic Rucker Park, before making a name for himself in the league and eventually playing against Kobe Bryant in the 2009 NBA Finals.

As someone who started to watch NBA in like 07-08, I’ve heard of Skip 2 My Lou way before I’ve ever realised that Alston and Skip were the same person. We had those And1 tapes passed around the classroom on IrDA ports and Bluetooth lol
It was crazy to find out that this insane ball handler was the same dude who actually started in the NBA, awesome stuff and really made a lot of people take street ballers more seriously.

Was so glad to see-SKIP-make it to the nba, I couldn't believe it at first-LOL. But, I so happy for him, I even thought other And-One players would follow him. It didn't. GREAT video tho, keep'em coming.

His resilience is what's impressive. I know easily 25-30 ball players that were nice enough to go pro. They the vast majority either quit for a quick buck or couldn't stay away from the party life. The others weren't committed to class enough. Rafer made it happen w/all the influences surrounding him

He left Miami too soon!! A year later he would have become a champion!!

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before the fall.

Skip was not the first streetballer in the nba. He was just labeled with it. Pete Maravich, Earl the Pearl, Tiny Archibald. Skip not touching those dudes in the streets or the league and Kyrie is after but he’s the only dude to actually play And1 hoop all game long in the nba killin’. Credit to Skip for the And1 origins though

Allen Iverson and Steve Francis and before them Nick Van Exel and Kenny Anderson. NBA Streetballers before this dude.
