The Backrooms were created on 4chan on May 12 2019 by an anonymous user who described the picture of a liminal space posted by another anonymous user.
The text said :

I know a few people already said this but Kane Pixels is NOT the creator of the backrooms he just brought it to life. The creator of the Backrooms is unknown as it comes from a 4chan post and God knows who the user was. They gave us free roam on making ANY content for the backrooms that we want!
