There are some major issues with YouTube's new Creator Music service that you need to know about. It's exciting they have created the resource but they are not being clear in the communication and everyone thinks it's going to be a free for all...it isn't. So, we're going to talk about it.

So only use royalty free music and sounds. Im not splitting my revenue almost 50% for a song that takes up less than 20% of my video and is most likely just background music. That whole model is bonkers.

Currently still watching. I was skeptical of the new music option back when I first heard because I'm aware of how easy it is to misunderstand little details & run into issues hence I will stick with royalty free music or services such as Epidemic Sound for long form videos, I'd rather not get blindsided with strikes or be forced to share future revenue I may earn. it's tough enough to keep track & remember even the basics let alone what could become a new risk of demonization or strike especially when we have safer options available for music, but I respect YouTube for trying to give us additional options, thanks Nick.

Really appreciate you taking the time to dive deeper into this topic, clarifying and sharing it with us. Thanks a lot, Nick!

Yes, you are right. It is better to use the companies that already offer music libraries (free or paid) that do not incur in these “issues”.

YouTube should have a feature that will allow you to change the song once the video is publish. Just like they're allowing the the rights to be change once the video gets published.

Hi Nick, this was excellent information. Not monetized yet and still in my first year... just crossed 1000+ uploads in 9 months of being on the Youtube platform and I focus on bringing value as well and what you're doing is indeed valuable and greatly appreciated.

You brought to light the pro’s and con’s associated with this and it is my hope that as many people as possible can see this information to be able to make a more informed decision on this creator music service.

Well delivered content. Thank you again for the information and perspective on this. Youtube does provide quite a bit that is good for their community but it is always recommended that people do their own homework to truly understand the offerings as well.

Great insights Nick! Thank you for the deep-dive on this. You have saved countless creators from unnecessary struggle. We appreciate you.

This is another reason people should just get with a reliable creator that makes his own beats or songs and just purchase the beat or song from them. Make sure it is all documented to be on the safe side.

All I'm hearing is - don't use YouTube music in your videos. I clicked on this so fast because I currently have a copyright claim on my very first Short, reached out to Support a while ago and still haven't heard back. It's just safer to not use their music I think. The small print is just more than I'm willing to navigate.

Thanks for the video! Also, be careful using "free" music because some folks are collecting "free" music under their own label and giving out copyright strikes. It happened in some of my vids, got strikes months after the video was published.

So one thing I'm curious about. What happens with songs/music which were listed under free music in "Audio Library"? Are those still free to use without worrying about any of this? For example if free songs were used from the audio library in previous videos before this beta program became available, is that still free or now we have to worry about those being copyrighted or claimed etc.? Also moving forward can we still use those free music/songs we used in previous videos or those are now all part of the whole license deal? Thanks :)

Great advice as always Nick. Your channel has been very useful
in growing my channel.

This is good because the music from creators is 100 percent not copyrighted. This is cool ! Regarding about the share, it is fair enough we are using their music then we got to share our share revenue too to our creator. Thanks for the heads up.🎉🎉🎉🎉 God bless us all.

YouTube needs to create the ability for creators to change out the music on their videos without having to delete the video and re-uploading it. This could be made possible to upload the music as a separate file from the videos and audio-like the thumbnails. To ensure the music plays in the right place transitions/spacers could be used. Many music subscriptions have it where if you cancel your membership you lose the right to continue using the music you have used. This just seems wrong to me. Rights to previously used music should be protected from cancellation (by either party) and Rights revoked going forward. I will settle for headache free mediocre music that get caught in that trap. Thanks for letting us know.

Stopped a little over 6 min because I have to digest this when I have more than a half hour. Nick is spot on when he says YT is pretty bad at information dissemination. Maybe they should consider calling for a volunteer review panel of creators, to look the documents over first, then publish once obvious questions are answered.

Thank you for the insight into this subject! I've been forced to delete many of my older videos, because all of the sadden they got copyright claims, months after publication of no issues.
I guess it's a good idea to switch back to no music in the background kind of content, just to be safer!

excellent video, Nick- I'm half-way through. It's of direct interest to my other channel... but this new music programme sounds very restrictive - a real mine field... i'll continue watching now. Thx for the exhaustive coverage of the topic!

Thank you for the info, I will continue to purchase music with no strings attached. The YouTube version of licensing is too complex.
