How to Texas Rig Tubes for Better Hooking Percentages

Pro bass angler Cole Floyd shares an excellent tube rigging tip for pitching and flipping applications that involves altering the hook bend and cutting the tube to deliver vastly improved hooking percentages.

FEATURED TACKLE

Why a tube? A simple soft plastic tube ignores all the design hype of creature baits and consistently produces bites when rigged Texas-style and pitched around shallow cover or fished on a jig. The simple body profile delivers reduced action and vibration, which akin to Ned rigging, can be the ticket when bass are in a funk, highly pressured, or conditioned to more commonly used creature baits.

Ive been texas rigging my tubes for years, and it does have problems with hooksets if you try to get the hook through both sides of the plastic. This cut idea is pure genius, and so very simple. Awesome tips.

An overlooked bait that is extremely versatile and effective. Multi species as well. From top water to bottom bouncing.

Great idea! Not much of a sneller, but nothing I can't learn. Do you consider it necessary with that Trokar tube hook? Would you say that Trokar tube hook in a 4/0 would be an appropriate size for pitching grass with a standard, thicker 4"/4.5" flipping tube? And how important do you feel using a tube with a solid 1/4" or so at the top is vs. tubes that may not have that solid portion?

What hook are you using in the video? Thanks.

I just bought my first pack of tubes. Haven’t caught anything yet but I’ll keep trying.

Would a 3/0 in that hook work ok in a 4inch Big Bite Baits flipping tube, because you can't find a 4/0 or 5/0 in those anywhere but I talked to Eagle Claw and they said the 3/0 is the perfect size for a 4in tube but I didn't know if they were just saying that to sell some hooks and they also said that they wouldn't have any more bigger hooks till around fall

Hello . Can ı ask u an expert level question? İf braid is getting tangled up right before the Leader while casting (one foot or so), why it happens? 🤔😥. Too thick leader for braid maybe? Braid 30lb Leader 50 lb. Thanx
