Crimping Open Barrel Terminals

If you're here to post a moronic comment, like "Just use a proper crimper, dude," then move on and be stupid somewhere else.

This is the Thomas & Betts 112M I've used for 25 years.

A fancy ratcheting crimper will be EASIER for a non-experienced person, but if you DON'T HAVE a more fancy crimper, with a little practice this simple crimper will do just about anything, including small JT or JPT terminals. This is the only crimping tool I used for the first ten years when I first began building or repairing engine wire harnesses in the 1990s. Yes, I do now have a few other fancier crimpers with interchangeable dies, since NOW they're CHEAP, but more often than not, this is STILL my first go-to tool for most quick crimps.

Precise and to the point in just 1m 16s. Why can't other video's be like this one instead of the normal 5m just talking nonsense about the wire, another 5m talking about the tool and another 5m talking about everything else. Well done sir. Thank you.

I am an electrician in Miami and use that crimper for regular crimp, I also repair appliances and I use an open barrel crimping tool for that purpose

It's like recipes. I just look for the ingredients and quick list of how it's done but must waffle on which I try skipping. Good job here.

Damn son that's a ferrule crimping jaw for screw terminals, you need an F crimping jaw.

Pretty good ! I am looking to see how / what to buy to clean and reconnect the engine firewall connector that is in the middle attached to the firewall .

Great crimp for sure. But... Have you tried just placing the terminal in the tool with open side in the smooth curve side of the jaws, the closed side under the point in the jaws, and then just squeezing? Bam. You're done. Better? No. Worse? No. Faster? Yes. The point of the tool is to make the job quick and easy. Nonetheless, how you're doing it is making a great crimp.

I use two sizes. The size shown is for 14 to 18 AWG. The largest size is for 10 to 12 AWG. That size will work for 2 wires. I don't bother with a middle sized terminal.

Incorrect crimping tool for that type of terminal end. Very little compression at the wire connection and strain relief is over crimped. (40 year computer control repair technician) If it's an emergency repair and those are the only crimpers you have then go for it.

Great video. I have the same tool, I need to practice on how to use it on open barrel terminals.

Excellent result - best I've seen for a manually (i.e. not machine) applied crimp terminal.
