This really makes me think about how things really were at those banquets. I can't even imagine how crazy it really was.

They ate way better back then before they discovered sugar. Nowadays you can't even buy bread without them shoving sugar in it.

Bit of wrong information: peasants regularly ate meat, its just the kind of meat they ate was vastly different from the meat nobles ate. Nobles ate roast pig, peasants ate roasted rabbit and the like

Our tap water tastes funny. I'm replacing it with alcoholic beverages. 8 cups a day should do

I remember seeing other documentaries about how rich people ate during ancient times and the Middle Ages. Recent researches show that the rich ate unhealthy and were always getting sick.

No meat during Lent (not just Fridays back then) makes so much more sense. The rich would be giving up more than the poor.

Lower socio-economic classes once had longer lifespans because they were eating healthier. Nowadays, thanks to fast food culture, that has switched :(

Of course, one should remember that it wasn't the same everywhere in the middle ages, food availability changes depending where you are and the common mad could eat better or worse depending on where they lived.

In ancient china, emperors would fill artificial lakes and rivers with wine, hold banquets on gondolas floating on them, and guests would have to recite poetry when ever they wanted to dip their cups in to take a drink
