Oil Change Twice in 1 Day | What And Why

In this video i changed the oil in my car twice in 1 day. I was curious as to what the color would look like after the first oil change, but it turns out the color was not the only interesting thing, it was actually the viscosity. Sure it may have been a waste of $30, but it was a cool experiment for me. Hope you learn something.

If twice a day is good, then thrice a day will be super.

0:24 - KIA: "You're going to have to remove 18 bolts to remove the splash shield before you can get access to the oil filter and drain plug". Mazda: "Hold my beer".

Do this.
1. Change your engine oil and filter more frequently. Around 3, 000 miles - not 6, 000 miles.
2. Every third oil change purchase an extra cheapo oil filter - drain the oil and install the cheapo oil filter.
Fill with two qts of engine oil and let it idle for about five minutes.
3. Drain oil and change to a good new oil filter like the Wix XP oil filter - and fill the oil to the correct level.

You have flushed your engine of any older oil residue and the new oil is now in better condition to protect your engine.
Never use crankcase flush chemicals. Flush with HD30 engine oil and cheap oil filters until the oil comes out clean - not black.

FYI - I drive a 20 something yr old Suburban with 200K miles - it runs like new and doesn't smoke or burn engine oil.
Engine oil and oil filter gets changed at 3K or sooner depending on oil color and condition.
Valvoline Full Synthetic 10w-30 with Wix XP filters.
I went to the Wix catalog and found a filter off of another GM vehicle with the same threads and gasket size but 2.5 inches longer to have more filter area.
I have also performed the LS engine oil filter bypass mod so that all of the oil at all times goes thru the engine oil filter.

I always do double oil changes(the 2nd one after a day's driving). It's like hair shampoo's directions... wash, rinse, repeat. Oil is cheap. Engine repair is not cheap. New engine is :)

I would use the Sams club or walmart oil to waste since its cheaper and then use the good oil

the color change of the 2nd oil is simply oxidation from the heat man, dark color doesn't imply dirt oil on its own. cool to see it tested though!

I like the idea of a back to back change. Not necessarily every time, but maybe every 30k or 60k. You could do it in conjunction with a flush to further remove the flush. I used liqui-moly flush on a 25 year old truck and it made a world of difference. I've also flushed two other vehicles when they hit the 100k mark. All have worked out great.

Good job! Good references and good comparisons.

Great video, just did the same thing prefer this than using an engine flush liquid. Makes more sense.

I thought old oil should be less viscous?? In fact contamination makes the oil less viscous for sure

On modern engines 10-20% of old oil will remain in the engine and get mixed with new oil. Varnish, gum, sludge and carbon is caused by that 10-20% that stays in the engine, for another oil change interval. The new oil is depleted/diluted and its ability to clean the engine is reduced by the old oil. I have done lab tests on new, used, and combined new/old oil. It does have an effect. I use rinse oil at every change. I keep the rinse oil and use it 2-3 times, before discarding. There are industry articles on benefits of double oil changes. Mine has 189k miles and the engine looks brand new. I do 10k mile drain intervals as well.

It’s also less viscous due to heat from driving the car.

I only drive my car 2, 000 miles a year. Every 1, 000 or 6 months I used my pump to remove 5 qts then I put 5 qts back in. Only on the 4th time or 2 year mark I changed the oil and filter. The oil always stayed clean.

I think you meant oil filter not fuel filter gets harmed when we don't change oil... great video thank you

Dude with high quality oil, amsoil, penzoil ultra platinum, etc, this is a waste of money..

People have gotten over a million miles on quality engines just regularly flushing out..

Just do it when you have time and wait until it stops dripping..

Forgot to mention. Oil change shops and did it by pimpimg out the oil and measure how much comes out to make sure they got ot all

2000 model Toyota Corolla - Oil change every 4000 miles or 3 months since new (full synth) 378, 000 miles now and drives like new - compression test 9psi below factory.
What do you think this proves people?
Looking forward to all reply’s :)

Oil change gets black because you block is coated with carbon. It takes 3 oil changes with 30 minute running intervals to get the carbon completely out. Gets worse as milage increases due to ring wear.
Your test was insufficient for proper testing. Thats why the new oil was black very quickly. It needs to be flushed 3 times for the cleaning to be affective.

Why not just throw an extra quart through while the oil drain plug is still off to clean out any old sludge or dirty oil instead of wasting a whole 5 quart jug of oil? And doing 2 seperate oil changes?
