Do You Have Vikings Blood? Check These Signs!

Have you ever wondered whether your blood truly runs with the blood of Vikings? After more than 900 years since the Viking Age, it's no wonder that we've forgotten who among us is descended from the Scandinavian warriors. Don't worry though; there are a few simple ways to confirm what you might have always suspected. Watch our new video now and find out if you have Viking blood running through your veins!

If you are descended from the Vikings, then your surname might offer clues about your Viking ancestry! Experts suggest that some personal surnames relate back to a time when people named their children in a way that described personal qualities that they possessed, and this means that surnames like 'Wise' or 'Good' would have been fairly popular among people who had these traits.

To determine whether you have Scandinavian DNA, examine your family background, and keep an eye out for people with familial ties to Scandinavia like Norway, Sweden, or Denmark. If this is not a possibility, there is an alternative route to determining if you have Scandinavian ancestry: examining your genetics via a test to determine your haplogroup.

Although we don't know what blood types the Vikings had, there are plausible hypotheses based on evidence and sound reasoning that reveals their blood group was likely A+. Blood group O+, on the other hand, is the predominant blood type in Iceland and other strongly inhabited Viking countries like Ireland.

I recently found out my Viking bloodline. The hard way that is. I posted my ancestry test results on Facebook, and my blood brother had told me that on my biological mother's side of things, that I carry Scandinavian Viking, Northern Germanic tribes, and other places that were considered to have barbarians

My grandparents were Norwegian. (Grandmother was named Nora. G-Grandmother was named Ingeborg; her husband was named Ole. An uncle was named Einar but when they migrated to the USA, it changed to Anor, thanks to an American school teacher. She couldn't pronounce the name.) I have definitely traced the family back to the Viking era. They were from Løkey, Fjell, in the Hordaland area. Had Nelson, Neilson, Larson, Olson, Rasmusson surnames. I have the green eyes and used to have strawberry blonde (darker) hair. Mother had some ancestors who were Viking as well. If you have this ancestry, be aware that there is a genetic blood problem that is common: Factor V Leiden. I landed in the hospital due to it, with blood clots in both lungs. Came close to dying. Both my parents were carriers. (I'm A+ blood as well.) If you have Viking ancestry, please get tested!!! It requires a simple blood test. Northern Europeans, especially those from the lands that were invaded and settled by Vikings are at risk, too. One explanation is that due to being a warrior race, Vikings developed faster clotting times over a long period of time. This produces clots in order to heal faster from wounds. Most didn't live long enough to experience the clotting factor gone awry. People with this disorder, of course, are at risk for heart attacks and strokes in addition to DVTs and pulmonary emboli. PLEASE, get your dr to order the test— it could save your life!

For Surnames, also look at the Scots family names, McGreggor is a Norse sur name and well as Henderson, there are many more and most Scots of the highlands can claim a Norse-Gael lineage, myself included. Another indicator is a strong affinity to carnivore eating habits.
