One thing I especially love about this scene is that they play up his sword skills like a joke so we would assume it was just the typical "old guy who's really strong" trope so we wouldn't expect any crazy reveals or twists out of him in the future.

That's actually a fairly nice bit of foreshadowing, that either Bradley was really good with a sword, or that he wasn't quite human.

I love how if you have a sharp ear and eye you can tell if you watch again that Wrath did indeed cut the spear. A spear would not make that noise upon an abrupt stop, that was actually the sound of him slicing through it with his sword, and in the change of camera you can see him holding his sword, unsheathed. A very nice touch.

This is awesome storytelling... In hindsight it makes perfect sense for Wrath to check out Edward Elric - a potential sacrifice to be used by Father on the Promised Day.

Sometimes the coolest moves in anime are those that aren't seen.

Knowing the truth about Bradley makes these scenes all the more interesting. First thing Bradley notices is Ed's metal arm, which leads him to suspect that he lost the arm through the gate. Bradley's head turns slightly at the moment Ed claps his hands which is proof he has seen the truth.

2003’s exam was a bit more interesting in that you see other people also testing, see the extent of the “average” alchemist and how much of a prodigy Edward really is in comparison, and at the age he tested at you see him discover the transmutation without a circle for the second time

This is why there was never an Ed vs Bradley fight he would’ve slaughtered Ed in both adaptations.

One thing I've never understood is how everybody is so sure that Ed never uses a transmutation circle. He could have one under his clothing somewhere, tattooed on his body or something. They just assume that because there's no transmutation circle in obvious sight, that he's not using one. Considering that they're always surprised and perplexed, it would make more sense for them to first assume that he's hiding one somewhere.

1:32 For odd reasons, I always like this trope, where the character's weapon gets suddenly broken and they get the reaction of "WTF!?" Or yell/scream in shock briefly XD
