You need a short DAC to patch between the router and switch, that will free up a port

Are you able to make the lights static instead of the strobe effect?

These are an expensive switch, but hell cool and the Etherlighting, as much as I thought it would be a gimmick, is actually really helpful.
I also like that it has POE++ and some 2.5GBs ports.
On a flat network / default VLAN, the switches will work unmanaged, but if you need VLANs, you have to manage them. It's a nice little feature that they can run unmanaged until adopted.

can you comment if the fans in the unit are loud?

Can you give me an idea how loud the fan is and how often it runs? I have a Lorex system and the fans run all the time. I am hoping for a very quiet or perhaps silent system.

Great video.

Any chance you could do another walkthrough of your whole farm setup with all the changes over the years? Reason I ask is I have a very similar farm setup to yours and I'm about to pull the trigger on updating to Unifi. I started with your one from a few years ago and took notes and have been binge watching your videos and updating the models, etc. where you have upgraded over time.

Thanks again for all your videos

Definitely my next purchase once I get my startech 25u rack.

Can you turn the lighting off or have it on a timer?

Unfortunately previous owners terminated all ethernet runs in the master bedroom. I can see this switch pissing the wife off, lol.

There is a locking tab on the back of the switch that will keep the power cord from accidentally being unplugged when it is engaged. I did not see you use the locking tab when you plugged in the power cable to the back of the switch. I highly recommend that you use it.

Connecting router and switch using SFP+ might be worth if you have more than 1Gbps wan. Or there’s any other escenario where your current connection is not enough?

Surprised upgrading to 2.5gbe isnt on yoyr shortlist!

You need a mirror ball now. It would make that room a great dance party room.

I'd prefer the option to dim the lighting on Ubiquiti switches

I would connect UDM and Switch with SFP+ 10G cable... Etherlight is awesome, sadly do not follow LCM screen off time, they should implement port lights OFF/ON function for every switch they have, it is crazy how my UDM glows... or my Ultra switch, need to use tape to dim it (yep, it heat up a bit)
