US farmers see soaring input costs and plunging crop values as China, Russia smash inflation lower

US and EU shoppers face soaring food inflation, paradoxically at the same time food prices are collapsing globally. This also has a hugely adverse impact on our farm sector, who are being hit with rising input costs and export markets that have all but disappeared.

Farmers across the developing world are reaping giant gains in crop yields and productivity from low-cost, high quality Chinese equipment that isn't available for sale in Western markets.

And large food exporting countries which are under sanction, such as Russia and Iran, are largely off-limits to trade in Western markets, but do so freely with the rest of the world, cutting prices further. Strangely, even Ukraine is producing record harvests, to the point that the European Union is raising tariffs to protect farmers in Western Europe.

Good to know that Africa has increased food productivity. Their fair share in development is good news to the whole world.

Thanks for the relatively unbiased information. Quite hard to find people who actually just report facts rather than politics.

Tariffs sure seem to be very counterproductive. This is yet another example, one of many.

Land taxes had been increased enormously in America. While John Deer’s equipments had to be maintained and repaired by their dealerships . Kevin, the cost of operating a farm had increased tremendously in America. It’s really gut wrenching tragedy. It’s no joke Kevin. The situation is really in dire straits. Many farmers have families history dating back generations if not centuries. Now, they can’t hold on to their family legacy. You hit a really sore spot there Kevin. Love your video. Our government policies made our food suppliers unreliable on world stage. That brought about these new realities.

I'm in Canada. Grocery inflation has risen at least 50% across the board since COVID started.

I am following a Russian couple that goes shopping food and the prices are much lower than EU. I wondered why, this vid gave the answer!

Food prices in USA have definitely gone up since Covid 19, eating outside in restaurants in California is expensive now, as prices have gone up 30%. Cost of most food even at Costco has increased by 20-30%. I feel that’s due to Biden and NATO war in Ukraine

You are spot on with your facts (I am a small farmer in Canada, and still trying to make a living full time farming at age 76). The costs of parts and maintenance of farm machinery is sky high. Having a John Deere dealership do repairs on your equipment costs a fortune. Net profits for me this year will be small or maybe negative.
