One rule to remember: Keep your mouth SHUT! Don't try to "explain" your innocence .. the cop is not your friend .. and they don't work for you, they work for the prosecution! Get a lawyer, if you can, but give them something to work with by saying NOTHING!

Remember: Lawyers do everything by procedure. The information you get in this story is procedural guidance, i.e. this is what you should attempt to do in this situation (if reasonably practical).
