Police don't protect and serve people. They protect and serve the status quo which enshrines wealthy elites above the rest of us.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse for a civilian. Ignorance of the law at the level they testified to should absolutely cost them their jobs. You can toss in meaningless mottos like "protect and serve" or generic things like uphold the constitution, but at the heart of it their job is to enforce the laws. If they really have no idea what the laws are, they do not meet minimal requirements for their jobs.

This is a shame... In most states, being a plumber takes 576 hours (72 - 8 hour days) of classroom/lab work at a state-recognized trade school, plus 4/5 years as an apprentice. But only 3 to 6 months in the police academy (a joke) to be a cop, yet they give them a badge, a gun, and qualified immunity. So how does this make any sense?
