HP TouchPad Vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 - BWOne.com

It's a tablet battle between two of the newest tablets out the HP TouchPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Hardware & Design

HP TouchPad

The Touchpad is a 9.7 inch portrait design tablet with a more thick and hefty build. It is all plastic but with its extra weight gives it a solid feel. The design is minimalistic in terms of buttons and ports with just one micro usb port and one 3.5 MM headphone jack. Buttons are just the volume key and power. There are 2 stereo speakers on theft side that are Beats Audio powered but is covered up if you don't hold it in the right place when holding the tablet. There is a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video chat with no rear facing camera at all which is a disappointment. There should have been an option for a version with a rear facing camera and one without it. Internally the processor is a 1.2 Ghz dual core processor with 1 GB of ram and runs the latest version of Web OS 3.0.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is landscape style tablet with a 10.1 in display with an overall thin and light build that feels solid even though fully plastic. Samsung went to create the thinnest tablet possible at just 8.9 mm thick. For ports you have a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a proprietary dock connection when you have to use their USB cable for charging and syncing and their accessories. On top there is a power button and volume key and on the side are stereo speakers. There is a rear facing camera that is 3 megapixel with 720p video recording and 2 megapixel front facing camera for video chat. Internally its running a 1.0 Ghz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor with 1 GB of ram.

Neither device offers expandable storage which is lame but overall here Samsung comes with the better hardware and design. Thin and light tablet with great hardware specs. The Touchpad design would be good if it came out last year. It good construction just dated.

both pretty awesome, but how easy is it to put content on the galaxu tab and the touchpad? on windows and on mac?

i have them both, HP touchpad is by far the better tab. Better user experience, more elegant, the only thing i dislike is that there is no Netflix app, thats all i need.

Android browsing is still can be very choppy with hick-ups. If you go to the video section on cnn, the whole page slows down and the web page graphic is all mess up.

Yes it would, it just wouldn't look like an iPad.
Fun fact:
The A4, A5 chips in iPhone 4, iPad and iPad 2 along with the storage chips are manufactured by Samsung among other things Apple use in their devices. (doesn't mean I agree with the Galaxy Tab's iPad-like appearance) I would have prefered Samsung to make the Tab less like an iPad.

Let's put it this way, the Galaxy Tab is like a thinner, higher resolution widescreen iPad2 with stereo speakers :-P

What about the TP built in touchstone technology?? Has the capability to run android, with EASE, and from what I have found from my own benchmarking, with the TP overclocked to 1.728Ghz and running CM9 ICS 4.04, it blows away pretty much all of the competition, including this Galaxy Tab 10.1, look at the data, it doesn't lie, and although it has a few bugs (camera hasn't been cracked yet), AND considering it's an ALPHA build... not beta, it's well worth the $135.00 I paid for my 32gb TP

The Hp touch pad is top but its let down by its hardware the Galaxy 10.1 is probably the best out right now but it need better conectivity. Amazon is releasing a tablet soon aswell called the hollywood. I myself am now tempted to wait for the next Hp tablet because web os is better. I had the ipad orignal and i didn't really have many apps on it used its mainly for internet and reading.

That doesn't even take into account if you add preware functions to the Web OS side of the TP, which I can dual boot into either... Best of both worlds, if I HAVE to have a camera for skype or whatever, I just boot back into original OS... There isn't anything, data or opinion, that can argue these plain and simple facts... I LOVE LOVE LOVE MY TOUCHDROID LOL

wow i just realised that the samsung 10.1 tab looks even more like an ipad2. THANK GOD APPLE IS SUING SAMSUNG'S ASS. I HATE COPYCATS. :)
