Oh my gosh! My family is going through the exact same thing! Our daughter is transgender and we live in Idaho. We have been pondering, praying and just really trying to figure out our next decision. We have ultimately decided that we need to live where our values align and so we are making the move from Idaho to Colorado this summer. We are all so excited! This move isn’t just for our sweet trans daughter, but for our other daughter and her rights as she gets older. It’s a really really hard decision. I pray you guys find peace with whatever decision you make. We are so so excited for this next adventure!

Life’s about adventure, don’t live with regrets.
We have just moved from England to France at 60..
Grab the adventure and make memories.
Don’t live with what if or if only

There are so many factors to take into account. Finances, travel, local economics, and current social climate are just a few to name.

Being from a VERY small conservative town. I have loved living in cities. There is SO much diversity and cool things to do, see and eat. I lived in San Diego but it is considered conservative. I think moving is a great idea. Living closer to Disney would be ideal for you all. I would obviously check political leanings of the areas as I am sure you will. I know it may seem daunting but it is also invigorating! Good luck!!

Life is not meant to be lived in one place. There is so much out there!

I’m lesbian and I’m originally from Texas. I just to Washington State which I can say not only breathtaking but very diverse! Seattle is a great place to take the kiddos! ❤

My only concern about moving would be jobs and the cost of living. I know you guys will make the right decisions for you and your family. ❤️

My partner and I moved from AZ to CO in 2022 for this reason — they didn’t come out until after we had moved to CO, but one of the reasons we had moved here was because we felt so frustrated and tired from the misalignment in values and views that a lot of people in AZ had. CO has really allowed us to blossom and grow into our true selves in a way that I didn’t even know I was missing out on.

I put forward that you move to Scotland. Stats have shown us to be the most accepting country in Europe in respect to trans and LGBTQ+ rights. It makes me very proud to be Scottish. Amanda would be an amazing lecturer at St Andrews uni! 😊 Whatever you all decide to do, I hope it is filled with love, prosperity, health and acceptance. Love to you all ❤ xxx

My life is very similar to yours. I grew up in a mining city of about 100 000. It wasn't terrible, but not great, there were issues even being married and presenting as male, since my family moved to Ottawa, we've realized that bigger cities with a larger community made it easier for me to transition and my kids are more comfortable with more representation for them. My son is also trans and daughter is non binary. I love the idea of being the representative in a small community but it is better for my kids in the larger city.

I hope whether you stay or go, that the people around you fill your lives with kindness.

I would suggest Washington or Oregon also. I came from California and it would be a huge change for you. Look around and travel to other places. West coast is great and much more open to diversity in general. If you want to talk or look around I'd be willing.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Most trans people are having to ask these questions right now. Idon't want to be trans in a red state in this administration, especially since my state has been making things harder for trans people and is even trying to ban gay marriage now. I'm working on getting to a safer city in a blue state now.

I think you have changed enough hearts so now go be with a more accepting community! 💕

This is a great opportunity for your kids to learn about different cultures and different kinds of people ❤❤❤

We’ve lived in So Cal (loved it but expensive), Seattle, Portland, Denver. Now we’re in Tucson. Highly recommend you give a bigger city a try - if the kids are open to the adventure.

Any place you create your own is going to be your home of heart. Everyplace will have people who you may not accept you but that is ok. Just live what your heart is saying to you and your wife. Also the kids will be happy no matter what. They are still young. Change can and will be good. It only teaches you. If you don’t like it….. you can always move back. GAP year is so fun to explore and settle in a new place and evaluate to see if it’s a good fit. If not then you had a year of new experiences. ❤❤❤

Moving is huge. If possible, try and pick a few states that interest you and stay in Airbnb for at least a month(if possible). You’ve gotta live like the natives to get a feel if it’s a good fit for you and your family. I would move to just about any place that is truly diverse, inclusive and caring of all God’s creation.

I would say you could make a transition easier by living in a smaller suburb of a big city or like having your family on the outskirts of the big city, that's what I do I live in Philadelphia and we live on the outskirts. So we still have that nice. A small town vibe with our neighbors, but we can go into the city for all the wonderful things and it's much more diverse here.

I moved out of a small southern town for a city back in 2009 and it was the most heartbreaking and healing experience. The people here are so kind and not that fake southern hospitality kind either. I’m in the Midwest so it’s not city city but it’s nice and there’s a lovely queer community here ❤
